Whenever the boys had an event on at school, I told all the grandparents just in case they wanted to come. There was no formal invite, no sharing out of attendance, just a turn up if you can make it (or a do you want me to get you a ticket)

I have never really had the easiest of relationships with my now ex mother in law but there is absolutely no way I would ever restrict her chances to be proud of her grandchildren whilst they were putting on a show/playing an instrument etc. She is family, despite my divorce from her son.

Yes, she could be interfering in our earlier days and still to this day insists I only ever feed the boys microwave meals (god knows how that is possible when I don't even have one!) but she has also been there for us when youngest has been rushed into hospital, willing to step into the breach, to sit by his hospital bed despite being freaked out/distressed by all the tubes and wires so that I could grab a couple of hours sleep.

Despite our differences, I wouldn't be without her and neither would the boys.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
