Perhaps during her working life she couldn't attend her son's school events due to being a teacher herself and not being able to get the time off. Could she possibly be attending all your child's events because she missed out on her sons? I appreciate she might be a pain but she clearly loves your son.

I got to see my grandparents every weekend, occasionally the odd sleepover.

Holidays in their caravan in the summer, gave my parents a break.

I loved my time with them. Now they are both gone, Only memories left.

Every generation has issues with parents becoming grandparents, their advice is too old fashioned, always around etc.

When my son was born my mum came to mine every day (she took 2 weeks off work a/l for it), it was lovely, she got to bond with her only grandson, i got some rest, I never resented that time, (it wasn't so easy with her later).

She would offer advice but also saw i had my own ways, but it was a time that i needed help, first child didn't have a clue wasn't really into kids until about 2 months gone. She was a god send.

And now she lives in another country. We rarely see each other.

Kids are only small for a short space of time, why waste it on petty things. If it wasn't for your MIL you wouldn't have your partner or your child ;)

dodo01 your attitude to people have posted makes me sympathise with your husband and MIL. Are you always so unpleasant?

Pot kettle and black. So your comments are pleasant?

This thread has gone the way of ALL threads of this forum. Someone posts something, someone else picks through it and find something to make a personal comment on, then it becomes a personal attack, then someone searches back and finds a previous topic to also bring up, OP defends themselves, its OPs fault. Every single time.

Sorry, but you didn't have to let that happen if you didn't want to, why did you?

No we didnt but once she'd mentioned it, wife wanted to let her go. I didn't. So I agreed for my wifes sake.

I have noticed that quite a few of your posts seem to pertain to this issue. May I ask a genuine question?

Why would anyone post on a forum asking for advice or bemoaning a situation and only expect to get replies that agreed with them?

I would also add that if responses don't agree with you then the best way of responding is to say you disagree and maybe explain why, but don't make nasty, sarcastic or passive aggressive comments about either the subject of your post or other posters.

I imagine that was what Mumps was referring to in her post.

    I agree.

I don't know why paulfoel decided to 'pick on' mumps's post.
A number of other posters (including me) posted that the OP's attitude wasn't really nice to anyone who disagreed with her.

I just have and I agree I am a disgrace you are so right mumps. Thank you for pointing out the error of my ways. When I next want to reply to posts claiming to know the in's and it's of my child psych I will not respond.

I didn't realise that typing also relays the tone of ones posting. Maybe I should become a keyboard warrior too! Sit here post 1000's of posts and become a proper member with a proper opinion. As I have said I asked I got and wow what a friendly bunch you are. :T

You asked for opinions, you got them. The fact that they do not all agree with you is just the way it is.

If you wanted your opinions to be backed up, then you should have posted on another board.

I think that was suggested in post #61. ;)

My comment was honest. People took the trouble to reply and the response wasn't nasty. I don't know what previous topic you are talking about, the posts on here were mainly telling OP she was over reacting and she didn't like it. Like I said if you are going to give it out you have to take it but she doesn't seem to like that.

My kids attended schools during the Primary years that were small on physical space and large on pupil numbers. As such, events were ticketed, normally to 2, meaning only me and DH could go. Grandparents and Great Grandparents missed out a lot because of this. Now the kids are older, several have health and or mobility issues, one is in a Nursing home. How I wish they could have attended even if all at once or one of them all the time and given them that experience because now it's gone.

Since your son is almost 10, he's either in yr4 or yr5. The days of Primary school events is almost over. For the short time left, I'd let it go. Once at Secondary school, plays, concerts etc tend to only be if the kid volunteers usually if they are good at it! The hall also tends to be larger and the pupils participating fewer. Let your MIL have these memories, they'll be over soon enough.
