Could anyone confirm whats on the Sky+HD Essentials package? I read somewhere that there was Sky Sports Racing and News on there and a couple of other channels that could be recorded?
Sky TV Essentials - https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-essentials - just allows you to record Free to Air channels. That page mentions Sky Q but I'm pretty sure it's the same for Sky+ - I don't think any Sky Sports channels are Free to Air.

Be careful not to confuse it with Sky Essential TV - https://www.sky.com/tv#comparison-table-header - which is a Sky Stream package including Sky Atlantic and Netflix, but still doesn't include any Sky Sports channels.

Purely the FTA channels, Sky Stream Essentials has Sky Sports News, Sky Sports Racing and (I think) Sky Sports Mix (plus others such as Sky Atlantic).

Sky have always had this poor attitude to their naming of packages. Whether that's deliberate or just lazy I couldn't say.

once the contract ends you have to return all your sky q equipment. Is there way to keep it?

Yes , you pay them over £100 fine for the Q box plus more for other equipment.

After that the box will not work without Sky activating it again.

You may see some on eBay but they are probably locked.

Unless you want to pay £100 for a dead box it's pointless with a Q box, unless you're paying them £5(?) monthly so you can use it as a recorder for FTA channels or perhaps have a very poor terrestrial signal. I'm not 100% that's still available anyway.

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-essentials lets you keep using Sky Q without any paid channels - nominally I think it costs £15/month, but I've heard of people getting it for as little as £5/month.

I had £15 in mind originally but I have seen £5 as well, Sky are really reluctant to share anything on this.

Well pulled the pin today - after nearly 2 hours on Whatsapp got down to nearly what I was after - he tried hard but "assured" me he had used all of his available discounting powers !!
Final offer - 24 month deal -Signature /HD/Sky Sports /Sports HD plus Netflix with ads (12 months) -£53.50
After I declined that he came back with QTV Essentials @ £15pm - I queried whether this was available for Q customers - he said for VIPs only !!
All going off on 5th December. Now the wait ....
He also offered Sky SIM totally unlimited for £10pm and 100Mb fibre for £19 pm during the toing anf froing..

Sky do make it hard to cancel or recontract though.

I didn't know they did WhatsApp as I have done mine by online chat or mysky app.

What price range are you hoping to accept from Sky ?
