Does "TV Essentials" allow you to view any apps such as Youtube ?

I'm probably not the best person to ask, as I have Sky+ not Sky Q, but https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-essentials does mention Sky Q TV apps, so maybe.

Anybody have a better phone number to call? I got ‘the text’ about calling back about deals and called. 0333 202 2178 Is what I called.

What they said makes no sense to me. They can’t review broadband deals as I’ve already signed to virgin even though it doesn’t begin for a month.
They can’t give me any deals on TV unless I withdraw my cancellation, review the deals, and either sign up or begin the notice period afresh.

0333 759 4840 was one, say you had message to call

One would assume so as you aren't paying Sky for the apps such as You Tube, Spotify etc.  Only one I suspect you wouldn't is Paramount + as some get that free with certain Sky packages.  If you have a Smart TV you can get those apps through the TV anyway.  In fact I should use my TV more for You Tube as via TV you can scroll through videos quickly whereas through Sky Q App it takes about two days to fast forward!!   :D

I have already swapped my broadband to Vodaphone Pro (which is very good). I have handed my notice in on everything else TV related (sky q) which included nearly every package because just fed up with the haggling. Would stay with sky q if they offered a reasonable price but it looks like they are phasing it out for sky stream.
Sky stream is like a very poor sky q - there is absolutely no reason to have it if you have a smart tv.
We are quite possibly in the end game for sky as it has no usp anymore.

I got some similar guff from them - because my cancellation was still 'processing', they couldn't offer me anything decent, maybe in another week or two, blah blah.

No rush guys... for once I'm actually ok going to Virgin so I'm done bluffing.

Agreed this is what I was thinking on the previous page.
"there is absolutely no reason to have it if you have a smart tv." is this because you would just get Sky channels through Now TV or similar, if you wanted it?

Time to start the haggle with my Sky package. Taken my eye off my services and as it has rolled on, we are paying an extortionate amount.

    Broadband
    BT £76.87pm Fibre 900

    Television
    Sky £98.50pm Doesn't include movies

We also pay for Netflix premium (for the family), Disney+ (annually) as well.

Don't need anywhere near those broadband speeds, so will look to package with Sky or Virgin Media. Will try the retentions line now. Only want standard TV and Sky Sports.

Best other service I can see is Virgin Media362MB broadband, Sky Sports, £54.99pm 18m contract.

Smart TVs generally have crap processors, especially middle to cheap end ones, they have the apps sure but they're sluggish and often just freeze, mine does this on Netflix for example to have to use a fire stick

Really?  I have a 5 year old LG OLED but also FTTP 150 via Plusnet and it is not sluggish.  Gave up Sky Q December and absolutely no problems streaming via the LG DashBoard / Home Page.  All my streaming icons are there + Freeview channels.

Personally, other than sports there are no sky channels i really care about. The option to record and whizz through adverts was what i was paying for.

I have several smart tvs and all of them have better performing apps than sky q apps, but im sure there are tvs with bad app performance.
