So, I'm nearly at the end of my 30 day notice period. I have called Retentions twice and used the online chat once and each time Sky refuse to budge from the £79 they consistently quote me for Signature, Sports, Cinema, Netflix Premium, Ultra HD & Multiroom. One advisor even spoke to their manager who confirmed £79 is the best they can do.

The service is due to go off next week, is there a possibility I will get a better offer after the service ends or are they likely to continue to offer £79? Also, has anyone had a situation where they didn't get a better price after the service ends and it was actually more expensive?

I would appreciate anyone's experience as I'm getting nervous cancelling could actually end up costing me more.
I had the same experience and mine did go off, they’re not budging, I got an email yesterday looking the equipment back.  Seems they’re not too interested in retaining customers at the moment.  Someone said you get the best deals now when it does actually go off so we shall see.  Seems a faff having to send all back to get it sent out again
If you do a deal now and re-contract, I assume you can just continue using your kit rather than sending it back?

You’d think that.  I phoned them yesterday when I received that email hoping they’d do something but nope “No sorry there aren’t any new offers at the moment” clearly not interested in retaining at the moment.  If I’m honest what I liked about sky wasn’t so much sky itself it was having everything in the one place, so all the apps and regular tv etc, I’ve a Firestick and free view at the min and it’s all a bit of a faff and free view is kinda crap, barely anything in HD let alone UHD

I’m a couple of days in post Sky and am not missing it. I didn’t pay for UHD as there was so little in UHD I didn’t think it was worth it. The HD (and upscaled HD from other channels is good enough for me as well.

If you choose the right box you can have almost everything in one place. This is the home page on my Humax box. The EPG isn’t that much different from Sky either. My TV has Now, Netflix, Prime built in if I wanted to use them.

  • Just ran the annual gauntlet when I come back to my mother’s. She was paying £101 per month for most packages and UHD. (Didn’t even see a UHD channel on the box and it was even set to 720p!)

called up and was offered £95 then £90 then £80 with a waived “admin charge”.
So have given 31 days notice and will see if retentions team call her in the next 4 weeks.

So infuriating to have to do this dance all the time.
Difference this time is we didn’t get to speak to retentions.

Will update if we hear back or if we choose to leave.

Sky’s UHD is quite a sneaky feature, last time I checked there were only two live UHD channels (ch 401 and ch 406) and then a selection in the On Demand section. They should be embarrassed to charge extra for it.

Also, supposedly 493 - TNT Ultimate - if you subscribe to TNT !

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.
  • The only live UHD channels are for sport. If you're not a Sky Sports/TNT Sports subscriber then the only UHD programmes you can get are via on demand.
On Sky Q you need the appropriate UHD-capable Q box (some are HD only, including all the miniBoxes) and a 4K TV with an HDMI socket, as well as the UHD pack on your subscription. If you want HDR (High Dynamic Range) alongside UHD then your TV also needs to be capable of the HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) format of HDR. The Q box needs to be set to output 2160P 10-bit.
On Sky Stream you need the UHD/Atmos pack on your subscription, then if you have the default streaming format set to UHD then you should automatically be able stream the highest resolution possible for any programmes which are available in UHD. You can always select the UHD or UHD with HDR from the Other Formats tab on the programme title screen too.

Was paying £58.50 a month for Signature, Netflix, Sports, and HD (no cinema, kids, TNT, multiroom). Was already out of contract but an extended discount offer a year ago had kept me at that price. Was I think £43.00 initially and was heading up to £88.50 next month.

Online chat offered £62 to sign up the same packages for 24 months, or £85 with broadband (supposedly £43 reduced to £23). Had to go through the broadband offer before i could insist I am not changing broadband provider within contract.

Got to trying to negotiate a final reduction noting Sky Sports is cheaper for new customers, seemingly no luck, best he would offer after that was chopping packages off to reduce the cost. He took away oene of my queries then said he needed to take a break... and I got cut off after an hour of chatting. Very very frustrating,

I note Sky Q with Sports and Netflix through the website appears to be £64.50 even to new customers now. Are they throwing everything into Sky Glass now?

Netflix add on always seems to be £10.50 for standard (2 screens), or £4.50 with ads, quite a bit more than a few years ago.

@Maybejames interested to hear how you get on with your cancellation.

Sky don’t seem to keen at all off getting my custom back.  I got the packaging for send back my equipment, came with a letter saying change of my call this, so I thought I’ll give it a go maybe get an offer.  Was told nope once it goes off that it you have to reorder new equipment etc, they weren’t overly bothered

It’s interesting to see that (it seems) Sky have completely changed their retention policy compared to just a few years ago. I remember when they would hassle and hassle you from the day you’d put in your notice to convince you to stay with very low offers.

It seems those days are over. I wonder why? Are they only interested in high value customers now and not so concerned about customer numbers?

There are still deals to be had… In 2023 I signed up to an offer which is currently (with the following price rises)…

    Sky Signature £12.50
    Ultimate TV Add On £8
    Sky Cinema £9
    Sky HD £5
    Ultra HD £0.
    Total: £34.50.

But I had to call them, they didn’t call me. And these offers end in May 2025 where my bill will rise to…

    Sky Signature £36.50
    Ultimate TV Add on £8
    Sky Cinema £19
    Sky HD £9
    Ultra HD £4
    Total: £76.50

No chance I’ll pay £76.50 for that package. And I presume that a spring price rise will put this over £80. So will be interesting to see what they may offer me to stay, or whether I’ll be saying goodbye to Sky.

As an aside, does anyone EVER pay £36.50 for Sky Signature when they sign up as a new customer?
