out of interest does anyone know if such a device exists that has free view can record etc but also has the apps etc all built in so the likes of YouTube or now tv etc?Not as far as I am aware - but you can chromecast any broadcasts direct to a TV from an android device !!a bit of a faff - but possibleI tell a lie - see https://www.yours.co.uk/tech/devices/best-freeview-box-uk/HumaxThe Humax has many outstanding options making it one of our top picks. Its EPG (electronic programme guide) is clearly set out. Also, due to the inbuilt memory, you can pause and rewind live TV and record four shows at once while you watch a fifth from your pre-recorded catalogue.
The 1TB box offers 500 hours, but you can also get the 2TB variant for 1,000 hours of recording or the 500GB box for 250 hours. This entertainment hub, when linked up with the internet, also provides you access to a range of streaming and catch-up apps, including Netflix, YouTube, BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub. So there will be no shortage of entertainment in your house. This box also has built-in Wi-Fi, so no need for an ethernet cable and rogue cables everywhere.
Additionally, the Humax Freeview box has great connectivity and an added app that will stream recorded TV straight to your smart device. It also has USB ports for watching films and home videos from external storage devices.

Returned my box - got the PO receipt to keep for 90 days in case sky box never makes it to sky returns.
Thanks all those who helped make up my mind. My TV is set up for freeview and subscription streaming - not as nice an interface as Sky provides but d4**ed if paying £600 pa ish for a nice interface with netflix thrown in (package = signature, movies, netflix, HD).
Will now subscribe to Apple, got Disney and Netflix - Nteflix lets you cancel and then resubscibe as far as I can tell month by month. Amazon Prime already am Prime subscriber and get much more than TV. Half the price of Sky.
As said before, Sky is prob best for a family and/or sports watcher - then maybe worth the cost.1 -
So, I'm nearly at the end of my 30 day notice period. I have called Retentions twice and used the online chat once and each time Sky refuse to budge from the £79 they consistently quote me for Signature, Sports, Cinema, Netflix Premium, Ultra HD & Multiroom. One advisor even spoke to their manager who confirmed £79 is the best they can do.
The service is due to go off next week, is there a possibility I will get a better offer after the service ends or are they likely to continue to offer £79? Also, has anyone had a situation where they didn't get a better price after the service ends and it was actually more expensive?
I would appreciate anyone's experience as I'm getting nervous cancelling could actually end up costing me more.0 -

But you will have an account with Sky - seems it is there in case you want to come back, so they will know you are a returner, not new. I suppose you could sign up with another newly created email but wouldn't they match address?0

You would have to cancel your account
You would still be a 'new customer' & they want customers to pay for services
