  • #GrubbyGirl
That is hugely reassuring.  I did the sums this morning and you are absolutely correct - a no brainer.  Unfortunately think I will have to stay a month with Sky out of contract before I can cancel.

What happens about the Q Box which is owned by Sky?
They will send you a box to send it back.  All very painless.  I boxed it and sent it back the day the box arrived and they got it the day after and acknowledged it straight away.  Do keep your proof of posting though just in case
  • Well, phoned and cancelled!  Didn't like the way I was cut off when I said Cancel TV Package.  Had to go through the offer system to get transferred to Cancellations.

Got a number of very clearly set out emails telling me what will happen for which I am appreciative because Cancellations guy was quite hard to understand as he rattled off 'the legal bit' at a speed of knots.

Will now do as #Grubby_Girl suggests - look for a freeview box.
  • I hate this game that Sky make you play every time your contract is up. It’s a joke and there’s zero given for loyalty.

I have recently come out of contract and Sky automatically put me on to another tariff for 12 months without any tie in.

I have Sky Q and two mini boxes and have to say i like the user interface. I’ve been with Sky for over 22 years and have ‘played’ the cancellation game umpteen times but now It’s becoming rather tedious.

I went through the cancellation chat facility with the retentions team yesterday to see what ‘deal’ i could get and i was staggered at what i was offered and the lack of flexibility with the offer. It was nothing. It’s the first time iv’e ever been made an offer to stay with Sky and it would cost me more!!! Oh and now offering 24 month contracts only.

I was flabbergasted. So much so i told them to cancel the tv (i've kept the BB at £32pm). I have the standard emails come back confirming this. So i’ll wait in anticipation to see if they come back to me.

Seems like they make it up as they go along!!!!!

  • Right here goes, my experience!
Firstly did you know that Sky actually view this forum? - I told them other people from here were getting better offers than me and asked why? They told me each customer is treated on their own merits - so me being a 'valued customer of 25 years' meant nothing!
Currently paying £46 for Sky Sig & Sports going out of contract end of the month and payments going up to over £55 - told them I would not pay this much - best offer (via chat) was £48.50- I refused.
Mentioned that if I had agreed to that they would put up prices again in March so would be heading over £50 in just 4 months - nothing doing so again declined the offer.

Left it a day then phoned them and asked to speak to someone in UK in Retentions - long story short best offer was the £48 offered previously. Cancelled then and there - sky going to be disconnected on 8th December.

Let's see if they offer me anything better before then.
I already have BBC-I player ItvX C4  Spotify and Youtube on my Xbox console so won't miss anything other than the footy.

Well didn't take long to get a first offer via e-mail- £40.50 with a £10 Admin charge. This is less than I offered to pay in the first place!
Will wait to see if they phone.
  • We use Sky for recording terrestrial channels and cricket in the summer and eurosport cycling feb to september

When we signed up we got overseas winter cricket and England rugby. We don't watch football or F1.

We've recently been switched to sky Q. Our installer told us we'd get movies free for a month. this didn't self-cancel so we're on a 50% discount until April. i'll be cancelling movies asap

if we take the basic signature for whatever the minimum term is. Can we add sport in Apil/May? Will we then be committed to sports for another 12/24 months

We are in the habit of recording as opposed to streaming from iplayer and equivalents. Our TV doesn't have the apps so we use a laptop and HDMI.

What are our options and trade-offs?

    TIA
    John

  • I sooo hate all this negotiation milarky, tbh.  Just come off the phone from retentions where had an interesting conversation.  Basically I was advised that the offer I had which I didn't accept would hold.  However, offers changed day to day, so keep calling back to see if could better the offer.

Am paying £47.50 but will be out of contract in a week.  Offer was for £1 less (not good) but better than the offer I had a week ago which was for £49.50.

Contracts are now all 24 months (I was on 18 month contract).  Got a Q box.

I am seriously thinking about cancelling and streaming.  I would have to sign up to Netflix but it would work out a lot cheaper overall than Sky.  Already stream for free channels - mostly iPlayer tbh, Amazon, Disney+ and usually go to cinema for films - hardly ever watch Sky Cinema.  Can stream films on Amazon/Netflix.

I have Signature, Cinema inc Paramount+, Netflix, HD so not really impressed by £1 off what I pay currently.

    I
I've been without Sky Q for 2 weeks and it's really not too bad.  I do miss the user interface as nothing matches it, but I have bought a freesat recorder as like you I predominantly watch the free to air channels anyway.  I subscribed to netflix and am trying the ad version first but will upgrade if I don't like it.  I already get Disney+ free from my bank and I have Prime already and at the moment there is nothing I really want to watch on sky but will use Now TV as and when if I do want to.  In the bedroom I just stream.

So I've gone from Sky Signature plus Netflix and multi room (SD as I never paid for HD) at £59.50 to Freesat, Netflix, Disney + and Prime all in 4k for £4.99 a month and the fresat recorder will have paid for itself in 4.5 months.  It's a no brainer
Out of interest which Freesat box did you go for?

    Thanks
