Need advice on my offer from sky please.  I cancelled a couple of weeks ago and after receiving a text have called winback twice to see what they can offer.

They are telling me the best they can do is:
Sky Signature, Sports, Cinema, Multiroom, Ultimate & HD for £59
    Ultrafast Broadband for £38
So a monthly total of £97 (my current bill is £130 with only superfast bb plus tv package above)

I feel the ultrafast total is too high but can't get them to budge on it. They also said they can't remove the £20 admin charge as well.

    Any thoughts would be great!

    Thanks

Just a quick query first: You say you cancelled a couple of weeks ago and have since called winback - do you mean either:
     - you cancelled and are currently in your 31 days cancellation period, but still have your services, in which case you spoke to 'retentions' rather than 'winback'
    OR
     - your cancellation actually went through couple of weeks ago, so you were cut off and have been without your Sky services for the last two weeks, and hence have recently spoken to 'winback'

You can only speak to winback after your services have actually been cut off and you are technically no longer a customer.

(It makes a difference because - historically at least - 'winback' tend to offer better deals than 'retentions' - though with people's recent experiences documented on here, I'm not sure that's quite so clear a distinction now as it was a year or so ago...).
Hi, thanks for that, I am currently in the 31 day cancellation period.  I received a text to give them a call to see what they could offer but I ignored the telephone number listed and instead used 0333 759 4451 which someone put on this thread for the winback team. The person I spoke to without prompting mentioned during the call that they were from winback and that’s why they were able to reduce the price from what I was offered on my previous calls and that it really was the best they could do. Who knows though, they could just be spinning me a line and are actually retentions!
I’m looking at other options for packages and for standalone broadband as I definitely think £38 is too high for ultra fast. Such a hassle having to do all this though.
What I'd say about the hassle is this: no one has to do it - everyone is free to choose from many options:
     - pay the standard price to Sky - no hassle at all
     - call them at each contract renewal and take whatever they offer - some discount, minor hassle
     - cancel services but take a deal before the cancellation goes through - bit more hassle, bit more discount
     - cancel services and let the cancellation actually happen, be without services for a few days / weeks, then take whatever deal is offered - the most hassle, normally the biggest discount
     - go to a completely different provider

There's also the law of diminishing returns. I took the second option - a short time on texting saved me £40 odd a month. I might have got a few more pounds off with cancelling and then possibly another couple of quid by letting it cancel but I'm perfectly happy with the deal I got.
But the point appears to be that ,for most hagglers, the savings with your approach are now relatively small, maybe a couple of ££s off but rarely £40 !!
This was only a month or so ago. They knocked off £30 straight away and then another £10 if I took Sky mobile. I agreed but just haven't activated the mobile sim so it doesn't appear on my bill.
    What’s individual breakdown

    Sky signature £22
    Sky HD £5
    Sky sports complete £19

Down from £97 out of contract. I got the usual you've been mugged off comments but I'm happy with it for the amount of effort it took.

Cancelled my tv package with Sky which ends late December. Broadband runs out mid January.

Wouldn’t mind getting the sky showcase package again but I rarely use the live tv aspect anymore. Will just be going for basic broadband upon renewal in a new customers name so can get a TCB bonus

How did you manage to cancel so early? I thought you could only cancel 30 days before your contract ends?

I have the same as you, and I’m happy with it too.

    Sky sig 22
    sky hd 4
    sky sports 15
    sports hd 2
    Multiscreen 15
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.
  • Mines due to cut off in a week or so.  I'm thinking of  just trying for signature, HD and multiscreen,  getting rid of sports . I dont need netflix either .  What could I expect to get those for ?.  I've had a review my options text today.

It's a minimum 30 days notice. You can tell them you want it to cancel when your current discounted contract ends. Just put the date you want it to end in an email and they will phone you to confirm. That's what I did last time anyway.
  • Hi all just wanted to post to help others.

I've used live chat and winback number all to no avail. They wanted £100+. Had to let my sky cancel and get the wife register as a new customer.

Got ultrafast plus 500 mb broadband for £26

    Sky sig
    Netflix uhd
    Uhd
    Sky sports
    Multiscreen

    All in for £50

    So total £76

I'm sure some will get cheaper and some more expensive. Hope this helps others renegotiate.

From experience it seems to have gotten much much harder to get a better discount with Sky. We have been with sky more than 20 years now. I remember 18 months ago it was relatively easy to get a discount and you only had to threaten to leave and the time before that, it was even easier. Now it seems you have to actually cancel go through the notice period and even go without the service for a few days! No pain no gain and TBH I would actually have called their bluff and cancelled this time too and found some alternative!

There used to be a website you could go to once you were on notice which had some re-joining offers. Does it still exist and does anyone have the url handy?
