On cut off day, I received in the post, packaging from Sky for the return of the Sky+ box.

This is approximately 4 years old.  I wonder what they do with them all?
Hold on... I thought Sky+ boxes were owned by the customer from day one, whilst Sky Q was effectively loaned from Sky - is that not the case? :/
Sorry, my mistake.  I should have said Sky Q box.

I gave my notice today. They said my broadband will be cut off on 31/8 and the TV on 14/9.

    Wish me luck.
I did the same, also yesterday. Though only for TV as have Broadband with another provider. It actually suits me quite well, as we're going on holiday for a fortnight the day before the TV is cut off, so can happily leave it cut off for those 2 weeks before returning to see whether or not any good offers have come in... Will be interesting to see if we both get offered basically the same deals, and by the same routes...

The only problem i have is that my mother has a lifeline. So i cannot let them actually cut me off. They said my broadband will be cut off on the 31/8. So maybe i only have 2 weeks to see what offers are available.

    I received this email today.

Never a good idea to set your broadband to cancel, look for another supplier if needed and let them swap it over. Despite what they may say, having BB does not open up other offers (certainly nothing to shout about).
  • I wouldn’t phone them on the number above - use 03337 594 840 (tell them you’ve had a missed call)
  • I phoned Sky because I am out of contract and what did they offer me?

£2.00 a month off for another 18 month contract.

I'd rather pay the £2.00 so I can cancel anytime, though that is unlikely.

  • I have been offered, Signature, HD, Multiroom, Super fast, Sky Talk and Rental and Netflix for £87, down from £114 a month. Do they continue sending offers before you get cut off?

    if it was me…

I would do some research to how much a similar package would cost from other providers.

I would “elude” to other packages that competitors offer but don’t mention anything that is impossible for you to obtain (eg. Saying Virgin have offered you cable when there is no cable in your street).
eg. say you’ve been offered a similar package from Vodafone+Virgin for £63 in total - Vodafone are offering a £100 Amazon voucher &  Virgin are offering you their “Bigger Bundle” with no set-up charges. Mention that you phoned them as you received a mailer through the post.

Tell them you “don’t really want to leave” but “you are just ringing before you sign the deal with Vodaphone / Virgin” . They won’t know what exactly you could have been offered but it has to be relatively plausible.

    I would phone on 03337 594 840.

    Good Luck!

I decided to give Sky Stream a go.

Managed to get what I thought was a decent deal through Quidco:

Stream £23 a month (Entertainment, Netflix and HD) and Superfast Broadband £16 a month.

£95 Quidco cashback, £70 gift voucher and Sky will credit my account with £200 towards my BT cancellation fees.

In  my current contract it says phone the only way to give notice - is that still true; I thought OFCOM were going to address that? Also, can more than 31 days' notice be given so I don't have to make the phone call on the exact date to coincide with the end of the minimum term?
