Sky TV retention deals ( post your haggling successes )

  • Hi,

I'm in a bit of a predicament with Sky!

Mid January I accepted an offer for Sky Q of £26 per month, including Entertainment (£15), Ultimate On Demand (£10) and HD (£1), with a £20 fee. This is due to be installed on Monday 11th March (very long wait for an engineer in my area apparently!)

MySky is showing my future bills after the price increase will be £27.20 per month.

However I've now had an offer through the post of Sky+HD £13 Entertainment, £1 Box Sets and £1 HD with no install fee (This is after the price increase as well). I could then get Netflix for £7.99 per month. Total £22.99 per month, or £24.99 with Ultra HD Netflix.

So an extra £2.21 per month for Sky Q, with the extra £20 fee and would not get 4K Netflix as I wouldn't have the Sky Q Experience.

I live in a flat with one satellite feed. So on Sky+HD it would mean only being able to record/watch one channel at a time, but of course with OnDemand I'm wondering whether this would be much of an issue.

With Sky Q, the advantage is the multiple tuners, but no 4K Netflix with the Ultimate On Demand package.

Not sure whether to keep the Sky Q offer or take the slightly cheaper Sky+HD offer!

Surely Sky Q requires both feeds otherwise why have I got 2 cables plugged in? Is it for possible multiroom only?

Usually Sky Q would still require the 2 cables on a standard installation. However in a communal setup on a dSCR system, only one feed is required.

Selecting Single Feed Mode On Sky Q Box Process

To select the dSCR settings that will allow a compatible LNB or multi-switch amplifier please follow this process.
1- Connect single satellite coaxial cable.
2- On Sky Q handset, press ‘Home’
3- Scroll down on the menu and highlight ‘Settings’
4- Access the hidden installer menu by pressing, 0,0, 1 then ‘Select’.
5- On installer menu, scroll across to ‘Installer Menu’.
6- Change LNB type to ‘SCR’ and click save.
7- Finish process by performing hard reboot/ power cycle. Disconnect power and power back up after 2 minutes.
Once the box is ready to switched on again, power it backup. If the process has been successful your Sky Q service should be working as normal.

I had to jump hoops tonight to get the offer applied properly and it is still showing with price rises from April.

    However I should be getting:

    Sky Entertainment £15
    Box sets £1
    HD £1
    Cinema £9
    Q Experience £12 (rises to £13 though)
Sky Fibre Max and Line Rental £17

The old £15 deal has now ended with the price rise today so frustrated I didn't save an extra £2 but overall my deal should be cheaper than last year if they get the bills right. Remember to screenshot your live chats and record calls if you can!

Was this through Live chat, the fibre deal you got seems good, the rest was standard what i was offered

It was through the Winback team on Live chat. Retentions offered me Fibre Max and Line Rental for £27!
  • Current contract is up in the next month, currently paying £35.50 a month for all excl movies. Dont really need kids anymore as now that grand-daughter is at school she is only here one weekend a month, which saves £3 off that. Called them to see what they could offer last week, original offer was £52 a month with no movies or kids channels, after a bit of haggling got this down to £40 a month - still a 25% increase, so gave them 31 days notice of cancellation. Checked the www.sky.com/mydeal link and could get package for everything incl kids and movies for £40 a month - this sounded OK, BUT only a 12 month contract - my step daughter is moving back in after splitting with boyfriend and makes sense to get Sky Q Experience which is on 18 month contract. Started off on Sky Chat this afternoon to see if I could get that 12 month offer extended to 18 month contract, best i got was £45, but was still pushing for £40 a month when I got cut off. So rang retentions and managed to negotiate £37 a month for everything , increasing to £39 after price rise!! Sky Q Exp costs are in addition.

Entertainment £12 a month, increasing to £14 after price rise, Kids, HD, Box Sets £1 a month each, Sports £11 a month, Movies £11 a month all on 18 month contract, Plus Sky Q at £13 a month.

    Well happy!
  • Discovered this by accident 2 days ago. All sky channels, sky movies, sky cinema and sky sports. Was paying £25 for just basic tv package and £25.50 for sport.
Now paying £46 for all the above. Although found online I phoned to see if it applied to existing users. Couldn’t have been more helpful and within the hour all up and running. All that for .50p increase.
