Has anyone managed to haggle without changing onto a new tariff?

I have been told by retentions that they can only offer a deal if I switch to a new tariff but I want to retain my legacy tariff

Managed to jump on a deal last year for £30 - Sky Entertainment, Box Sets, Cinema and HD. This was due to expire and it was a struggle to renew it for £30 and if I hadn't been monitoring it it was going up to £53.

Best they would offer was £38 on the phone. Web chat managed to offer me £33 "best deal". Finally managed to get the £30 deal back after offering to haggle so naturally I said yes, I was happy at that.

Deal didn't apply for whatever reason so I got back on the live chat after work the next day, complained and it was eventually knocked down to £26 for 18 months. At that price point I practically bit their hand off.

50% saving right there and less than I was paying before for the exact same package (Sky+HD, the option to upgrade to Q wasn't even mentioned).

The good deals are available I think, you just have to be prepared to work at getting them (they seem more flexible on the web chat than the phone) and don't back down but be realistic about what you're after.

I think 50% is now the top end of discount deals at this time, you'll do well to get more than that, 60% may be considered crème de la crème.

Whats the point of trying to haggle and remain on the same tariff ?
Do you mean "mid contract" - if so - not a chance !!
I was on a 16 year old LEGACY tariff (with free F1) at discount rate - Which I tried to haggle furhter on - but Sky are trying to do away with legacy tarrifs and they didn't want to know ...

No im end of contract, i dont want to change tariff as im on the same legacy free f1 tariff - so all the new tariffs are more expensive even with discount.

I just want to extend my discount i got on my old tariff last year

I did, posted my experience above. Hard work, doubt I’ll succeed again in 18 months.

The package is perfect for our needs and with sky basically having exclusive live F1 rights, the legacy F1 pack is not something I want to lose.

Good luck... ignore the guy above, there is always a chance. Be polite, keep escalating until you find the person who will do the deal.

A tariff is the actual charge you pay, you're talking about the TV package. Ignore 50Twuncle's ramblings.

You certainly could haggle for a new discount on your existing package however I've not much doubt that at some point Sky will start to play hardball and try to get everybody on to Entertainment.

The only way to find out is to talk to them, you may need to put in your cancellation if they won't offer something that suits you, just let them know what it is you require. You usually need to contact them 2 or 3 times in my experience.
  • Helped a relative this week try and get a new deal with Sky as phone and BB was coming to end of 12 months. TV is for another 6 months.

They didn't want to offer anything other than to keep price the same at £46 rather than it going up to £48!

Bye Sky, switched them to VM for a cheaper deal via refer a friend so credit for us both. Will ditch the Sky TV when contract is up or if prices increase before hand.

I think the days of TV boxes are coming to an end. People using streaming apps will soon be in the majority.

In general I agree - but there are still significant chunks of the country with no access to "fast" broadband who can't stream - my b-i-l for instance ,is still stuck on ~ 1Mb/sec - his only choice is Freeview or pay for satellite:(

I agree. Lived without one for 3 years then decided to try SKY Q, hardly use it but stuck with it for another 9 months. Also got a VM TiVo free with Fibre but it's not even switched on! However, older relative still prefers a box to record, doesn't really get the streaming thing!
