Doubt that's right about everyone being upgraded to Q in the next year. I've been beta testing for Sky HD+ recently and it's pretty clear it will be around for a few years yet

If you want to upgrade yourself (I.e multi room) then you will have to go to Q unless you are in a situation where that's not possible. For example, you are on a communal system that hasn't been upgraded yet

A Sky agent advised someone I know that that will be the case and to not pay to upgrade right now. Whether that comes to pass or not is another matter.

Can I ask, beta testing what exactly?

I wouldn't take the word of one Sky agent. If nothing else, there are the practicalities of actually doing the upgrade. There's a lot of moaning already about the time it takes to get an engineer out to upgrade for those who want to. ETA - in 2015 Sky had some 11 million TV customers.

Plus the publicity from those those who have no interest in upgrading (hands up me for example!) wouldn't be good

I've been involved in the RO15 software beta test

I wouldn't be interested, either. We have no need of recording 4 programmes at once, don't require tv in any room but the living room (Freeview pvr in bedroom).

Also, though their owning the box would cover repairs (Ebay replacement HD+ is cheap enough), if you cancel you will have to return the box and possibly have to pay for delivery of a replacement , should you take up a post leaving offer (thus reducing the impact of the offer).
  • Phoned up sky tonight to cancel (couldn't get through on live chat). Girl at Sky was nice and asked lots of questions and went as low as 40% off our current £58.50 a month for 10 months on a 12 month contract. Probably could have pushed her for more but said no and went through with the cancellation

Have since logged back into my Sky account and I'm gettting the offer of come back to Sky For 60% off TV for 12 months. Will leave it a few days and get back in contact with them to see if can get anything better than that
  • I phoned to cancel Sky. I had arrived at the conclusion that I was paying someone £38 a month to watch adverts, some of which seemed longer than the shows they were interrupting.

Over the years they have added lots of new facilities and the price has gone up accordingly. I have not used most of the new facilities but I am charged as if I do. I was charged for multiroom for two years until I looked at a bill and queried it. I asked why they had assume I wanted multi room when I lived alone. I did not get a refund.

The lady with the Scots accent engaged me in conversation for about 15 minutes and that was after waiting in a queue for about 4 minutes. She didn't seem to understand the word cancellation.

She said that I would lose Sky Go and I asked what was that. It seems I can watch films anywhere. I don't subscribe to the films package and I don't carry a mobile phone so what am I paying for.

The conversation went on forever until I stopped it.
It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.

I just got a phone call back from Sky as live chat was busy (guess people don't want to actually talk to sky these days) and he offered me 50% off for 10 months.. Just going to wait a while and log into my account and hope I get a good offer like you

Without a doubt you'll do better than that, of course a 50% discount over 10 months on a 12 month contract isn't a 50% discount. I really hate that they do that.

Yeah he tried to tell me they don't offer the 12 month deal - I told him I got it last year...

This just indicates that you could have got more if you were willing to haggle.

The best deals are offered to those who actually cancel, by the way, threatening to cancel will get you nowhere unless you are prepared to follow though.

Well done on the savings you made...
