I have had 40% off my sky HD package for the last 12 months (£33) and was offered a 30% discount if I wanted to continue.... (I have been on Sky for 16 years)

So I negotiated an even better deal :
    £22 for Entertainment package + £5 HD - For 18 months

Is that a good deal ?
It's less than you're paying but exactly what a brand new customer pays so I'm guessing you've dropped something from the package.

So how much should I be aiming for ?
And no - nothing dropped as far as I can see .....
I believe that my current VARIETY package has been renamed as ENTERTAINMENT package ???

Is the £33 a month the full price with 40% knocked off? £19.80 a month is what you'll be paying if so.

No - £33 per month is supposed to be the price WITH 40% knocked off

    here's the emailed response ...

I have looked at your account and I can see that you are currently paying £33.10 until Febuary 2019 as you have 40% off your TV for 12 months. Then as off Febuary your bill will be £36.56 as you will have 30% off for 12 months as the 40% is no longer available.
We have recently changed our packages as well- What do you watch? Do you need Kids, HD, Boxsets? We now do a Sky Entertainment package for £22 if recontracted for 18 months with a £10 one off admin charge or £25 without a contract.
Kids, Boxsets and HD are £5 each and these can be added on at anytime.

Since their 40% discount is "no longer available" - I am looking for a 50% discount..

That's a base price of £55 per month which surely can't be for just
a legacy Variety package. I'm on a legacy Boxsets package at 50% off a base price of £39.35.

50% off yours would still be £27.50 which is too much.

Thats an HD package (which I believe costs an extra £10 ??)

So what discount will they go for ?

Also - the rate that they are quoting is for a Q box - which, surely costs even more
I still have a perfectly acceptible HD box

Nope, Q doesn't cost more although they will try and push an extra £12 a month on you for the "Sky Q experience" but despite what they may tell you it's not obligatory.

Aim for £15 for Entertainment and £1-2 for HD if that suits you as a package. They've been ripping you off for a long time paying £33 for the Variety package at a "discount".

The trouble with Q is that - it doesn't allow the use of a 2nd TV (via Magic eye) - which we have in the bedroom

Another thing which puts me off Q is that if you ever cancel your contract they take the box back so no chance of a free view option after you've cancelled so they have you by the balls once you get Q in

But it does provide Sky Q mini boxes which allow different channels and recordings to be viewed independently from the main box. They are also HD.

Magic Eyes are low tech nowadays.

Can't disagree with that but, since Virgin do the same, it won't be long before there is no alternative.

Still got my HD+ box if that happens, just to need to replace the LNB which is low down in my case so no problem.
