If you're not taking any existing service with you I'd have thought online with the possibility of using the cashback sites as well.
  • Hi All,

Just a general question, I have processed a request to cancel my Sky TV package which will be ending in the next couple of weeks. If I do not agree a new deal with them am I supposed to send back my current Sky Q box? I was under the impression that I am but I have not received and correspondence regarding this nor was anything mentioned when I did the cancellation over the phone with Sky.

Yes, they'll want it back. I think they'll send you the necessary packing a few weeks after cancellation, this gives them time to offer you a new deal so saves on postage both ways if you accept.
  • so I did the live chat last night with sky and the chap said after I asked a multitude of times he could not alter the package he offered me, which was the online offer- sky fibre unlimited sky entertainment (with movies) and pay as you go phone for £42 18month contract.

so wondering if its best to phone now and see if they can improve it, do you speak to somebody in this country when you ring?

Hi, as a brand new customer to Sky I just wanted to share my experiences on entering a brand new 18 month contract with them.

I wanted the following from Sky:

    Sky Entertainment
    Sky Cinema
    Sky Kids
    Sky HD
    Sky Box Sets
    Sky Q Multiscreen
Sky Q 2TB box (for Ultra HD).

(This is all the TV channels except Sports which I am not interested in).

On their website I was quoted £57pm with an upfront fee of £75.

Rather than joining via the website I rung them up to see if I could haggle in any way, I explained that I didn't understand why I was paying for the Sky Q Multiscreen experience and still having to pay an extra £5 a month for HD - if I was paying the £12 for Sky Q/UHD then I argued the HD should come as standard.

Customer service agreed with me & waived the £5 HD charge - this brought it down to £52pm.

I then asked if this was absolutely the best deal they could do as £50pm was my limit - the customer service agent went away & came back & said the lowest they could do was £47 a month by waiving the £5 kids pack. I was happy with this & ordered.

Yesterday a Sky Engineer came to install Sky Q for me, it was a Saturday so I had to pay an extra £20 for a Saturday installation. When he arrived I told him that as he was installing Sky Q he would need to change the LNB & the caretaker in my flats had given me access to the riser room where the LNB was - the engineer then told me he was not qualified to do this & he would have to go away & see if he could get someone else to install it (he said he was not trained up as an MDU engineer - MDU means multi-dwelling unit I believe).

I was fine with this initially, but as the day went on I heard nothing (after he had promised to get back to me) & got increasingly annoyed that I had wasted my entire Saturday!

I got back on the phone at about 5pm & got through to a foreign call centre who said they would have to rearrange installation on a Wednesday, I stated I had paid extra for a Saturday installation & as I am self-employed if I take time off between Monday to Friday I do not get paid. I started to get really annoyed then & stated to just cancel the entire order as I was sick of being messed around & having my weekend ruined.

They put me through to the cancellations team who apologised profusely for the mess-up (apparently they no longer use third party installers & their in-house installers can't all change the LNBs to work with Sky Q - she stated that this is happening all the time that the initial order takers are not noting down correctly when people live in flats & therefore not always sending the correct engineers).

Anyhow, she spoke to her manager & said because of me being messed around so much I was free to leave or they would knock £10pm off my package for the entire 18 months plus give me my first month free if I would agree to an installation the following Saturday. I agreed with this & was very happy with the deal.

So my final price for the whole 18 months is £37pm - this is for everything except sports.

Overall this has saved me quite a lot of money over 18 months.

At £57 a month it would have been £1,026 over 18 months.

I now have got this down to £37 a month with my first month free - so total over 18 months is £629.

    A saving of £397.00

I will also be saving an extra £5 a month in November when I merge my Netflix account with Sky (Sky Box Sets & Netflix is £10pm).

    :)

Congratulations. I'd be happy with your deal especially with sports and movies. Check how they have charged for boxsets because it's likely to be less than £5 and therefore the £10 charge for boxsets and Netflix might not work out as £5 extra per month. That said, Sky may well have do an offer to upgrade to Netflix. Even if they don't, you seem to be either very persuasive or very lucky!

I'm yet to rejoin Sky after a year away. Sky recently offered me £30 for entertainment, boxsets, HD and multiscreen with no setup charge for 2TB and minibox. I was away at the time and the deal had changed to £34 plus £40 setup by the time I got back to the UK. Not a bad deal but it works out an extra £120 over the contract so I haven't rejoined.

I have a quick question, my 18 month contract is due to expire on 19 November, when can I speak to Sky about cancelling so I can go to Freesat or maybe grab a good discount to stay with them. Do I have to wait until 19 November?
