Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

We just had our Virgin Media renewal advice. The package we have with them is, 1 Gig Broadband, & anytime home phone (needed by my wife working from home), Mega TV, "360" box, plus a second box (in the younger family members room). Sky Sports & Cinema, Netflix, Kids, TNT Sports. At present this is costing us £116 a month. From November 2025 our quote from Virgin is that the cost would go up to £226.34 a month for 24 months. An unbelievable rise!We called Virgin & explained that there is no way we could afford that (i'm a pensioner) we spoke to someone who was obviously in a call centre & attempted to negotiate a new deal, she made notes & then we were transferred to another Virgin employee. This man took no notice of the previous negotiation & helpfully offered us the same package as we already have for £110 a month, (going up to £114 next April & £118 April 2027).We have agreed this. If we had agreed the proposed fee we would have been paying at least £5432 over 24 months, instead we will be paying £ 2736 over 24 months (still not cheap!) So our saving is at least £2,696 over the next two years.0

That still sems very expensive still. I had that on a retention deal last year for £55. Albeit the BB was 350mb. You really need to go the cancellation route to get the best price..but as with all deals if you are happy then that’s the main aim.DJDorset said:We just had our Virgin Media renewal advice. I was paying £63 for the same up to now so really happy with that.
This is a 2 year contract - assume this is standard now? Previously it was always 18 months.1 -

Did you have to cancel first and wait for them to contact?ctbfc said:

That still seems to be the way to get really good deals. Maybe 2 year contracts are the way they're going now, with all the competition hotting up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
