Not sure how to play it this year. Coming to the end of my 18 months just before Christmas and paying £19.58 for 125Mb BB and Weekend Chatter. The offer in my account is at the same price, which I haven't seen in previous years. Do I put my cancellation in as in previous years- risking them not matching the existing offer, or just accept the existing offer to re-contract?Vodafone coming up as next cheapest option at £21.25 (after deducting £90 voucher).0

I had a landline call today offering a package with increased speed for £5 more, I said no.
1. I always ring to cancellations before contract expiry date and we reach some agreement. I'll do this again to determine their best price.
IF THAT'S NO GOOD:
2. Can I give my notice (contract under Mum's name) and re-join under my name to take account of new customer better deals?
3. Can this be done without loss of days or service, so straight away when it expires?
We did this last month. I forgot this time, but normally order for the new contract to start the day after the 30 days notice is up, as in the past the Virgin Media system threw a wobbly as it can't have two live services at the same address at the same time when ordering. However, when we ordered I forgot and had it starting a day before the old service ended and it was fine (in the past we ordered for the day after, then once confirmed we then contacted them and moved the delivery forward to create a cross over day to avoid loss of service which didn't cause any issues).
It is possible to transfer the landline number, but that could complicate it.You can also potentially get a cheaper contract including an O2 sim then cancel the sim when it arrives (as it is a separate contract) to knock £10 or more off your monthly costs.1 -

Dec 26th my expiry.
When we were coming up to the end of our contract an offer appeared in September - I decided it was not good enough, so cancelled anyway. The offer disappeared from my online account immediately. When retentions called a few days later that was their best offer, so I let the cancellation go through. No further offers received - I did contact them on the off chance there would be a better offer, but it was £30 a month more expensive.

I'm screwed.
If I rang them and mentioned that we start a new contract under my name, is that giving the game away?
Or are they aware people do this and ask them directly for this?0 -

You have to give at least 30 days notice, you can give longer? You could also ask for the end date to be before the end of the contract, check the early termination fee. It shouldn't be more than the remaining contract (so paying for a few days service not received)? The alternative is a day or so extra. It would depend on what date you were offered on the system for delivering new kit.

I may ring them today, just to get a feel of what sort of discount. It'll be crap as best time is 1-5th of every month.
So will say I'll think about it if no good then try again later0 -
Rang them today.
Seems they moved call centre from India to somewhere like Philippines.
Lame deal initially then went to Cancellations Department, He seemed to be in the UK, as they always are.
Offered me £3 less than current 18 months plus upgraded my speed to 250 (was 132mb before) and I'm getting 240ish now on phone Wi-Fi. Started it from this month so saves me another £3,instead of letting it start from Dec 26.
Modem was getting updates from their end, plus when it was done, I plugged it off and restarted myself to make sure it was getting new speed.

I've just recontracted for a further 18 months with Virgin.
I did have M125 broadband, line rental and anytime chatter and it was on a terrible deal of £50.04 per month as previously I had little bargaining power with virgin being the only fibre provider down my street.
But we decided to drop line rental and anytime chatter as this was not being used much and were able to advise Virgin we could now move to Onestream 80Mb broadband for £18.50 per month as they are now available.
On initial phone call to cancel services best offer was £37 for M125 and line rental. They wouldn't even offer me a deal just for broadband.
So I went through with cancellation.
Then 2 days later I got a call from outbound retentions offering £19 for 18 months (with normal annual price rises as expected).
Was very happy with this new contract and significant savings3
