Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

wibbler said:Haggling for my father in law at the moment. He's paying £87 a month for 250MB internet, MaxIt TV and Talk Weekends. The lowest they would go down to is £78 for the same package (or £74 for the 125MB internet), so I'm now through to retentions. Had much better success in the past (for example, earlier this year I negotiated £45 a month for 18 months for 500MB, MaxIt TV and Talk Weekends for myself) - have they become harder to beat?

Apparently discounts on TNT Sports and Sky Sports aren't available to Virgin Media these days. This would represent a £29 per month increase on my package. Are they likely to come back with a better offer? I have never had this scenario before with them and usually get a discount once Retentions have called me.
For info my current package is:
Maxit TV with Sky Sports and TNT Sports (Not HD)
2nd box
M250 broadband
Landline with Weekend Chatter0 -
Retentions have called again and said the best they can offer is £97 per month. My cancellation is booked in for two weeks' time and they're still not budging this year. Urrrrrgh.0

Evening all, it's that time again to play the VM cancellation game.I currently have phone line, weekend chatter and M125 boosted to M250 via Volt. Was £24 per month, which increased to £26.11 after the April increase.Renewal price is £35 - 35% increase. What kind of price should I be looking at for this package?Sadly via other means the fastest speed available is around 28Mbps - we have no other fibre providers at present.0

Just phoned VM. They offered to reduce the price down from £35 to £31. When I said this was still too much, also considering the April price rise due in 2025, she went away to see if there was anything else she could do.Came back with a price of £21.11 per month! Obviously bit her hand off at that price!0

Currently paying £97 and its going up to £158Needless to say I have gave them my intention to cancel!
Package I have currently is
M500 Broadband
Maxit TV
SkySports & Cinema
TNT Sports
Weekend Chatter
1 extra box.
Any ideas what I should be looking to pay for the above? Ideally wouldn't really want to change anything from my package
Had my first phone call back today, women was very kind but could only offer me my existing package at the price i'm currently paying ( £97 ) which I still think its very steep compared to what some others have managed to get on here..
So I kindly declined her offer and its now a waiting game to see if they'll phone again.
After still not having a call back since the original post above i decided to call retentions myself and see what they could offer, 0203 743 6947 was the number i called
£117 was the cheapest the lady could offer, i nearly burst out laughing on the phone.
Our services are due to be disconnected on 16th September so I guess they could still offer something better but I'm beginning to have my doubts.
Looks like we're going to Sky!0 -
It's that time of year again where I do the 18 month dance with virgin....
Was initially paying £17.00 for M250 broadband then it went to £18.49 which is due to expire next month got through to them on WhatsApp had a brief conversation with the agent they firstly offered £51.00 a month so I told them to disconnect the service they then came back and offered to renew the broadband at the same price as I was paying which will be £18.49 they'll obviously be a price increase next year but seemed all too easy if I'm honest!
This time there was no need for outbound retentions at all which surprised me I received the documentation which also stated the price for 18 months quite the result if you ask me!!
Happy haggling ☺️1 -

Happy haggling ☺️Good result!Wonder if VM are changing tack a little bit and taking some of the burden off outbound retentions. Maxit TV (includes TNT Sports)
M250 BB
Talk Weekends Phone
2 boxes (V6 and TiVo)
Currently paying £57.87 per month, due to go up close to £100 per month at end of Sept.
Phoned up to cancel this evening...first lady couldn't get price any better than £84 for various other deals, so after again asking to cancel I was transferred to next Retentions team....Good chat with this lady and various options explored. To keep package exactly the same for next 18 months was offered £58.87 per month. £1 more, happy with that, accepted.
Issue this year seems to be that if I'd changed my TV package to one of their new ones the TNT Sports would have become separately billable taking monthly cost well over £70.
So try keeping your TV package the same to control your costs when haggling this year?

When I did my renewal in December it was cheaper to ask for Netflix than the renewal price for all sports channels. Give that a try as that opens up the top package where you get everything, they seemed to have more scope to discount that. If you’re being quoted £97 anyway there’s no harm in trying. I was also told they could see I was a big user of TnT so could give me that for next to nothing. I know Sky can’t discount TNT much so maybe virgin are now in same boat. For everything, all sports, movies and Netflix, I pay £58, was £55 pre April rise. The main thing though is be prepared to walk away if you’re not happy with the price, there’s plenty of streaming stuff to watch now. Apart from sports I doubt you’ll miss it.0
