Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

Just renewed my broadband only M500 - was £36, about to go up to £59, now dropped to £29.91 for 18 months (plus the rpi increase in april). This is pretty much the current new customer deal, without having to put any claims in, so I'm happy with it.1

I have just renewed my M125 BB only package. Was originally paying £24 month, which increased to £31. Come the end of contract, Virgin offered me £35 (or £27 if I took a landline, with a connection fee of £35). I declined and asked to cancel, which they processed. I tried to haggle for a better deal, but I didn't sense the team was very motivated to give me a good price that could match their competitors.
A few days later, Virgin's retentions department called me. They were upfront with a good offer: £22 month for 18 months. I was happy to accept this. But it would have been much easier not to have had to do the dance!1 -
Help! My dad (in his 80's) decided to swap from sky to virgin. He spent yesterday morning confirming the switch would happen today & he's now been told they can't turn on for a couple of weeks. Sky has already been turned off. He signed up end of June. Would cooling off period still apply as it's not been switched on. Is there a good number to call to speak to somebody in UK?0

Can you get the sky or something else turned back on quicker than the virgin will take to be activated?
You should have 14 days from when service is due to start:
If you have ordered any of the services online, by telephone or from an agent attending at your home and have entered into a new contract with us you have a statutory right to cancel an order for those services within the cooling off period, which is 14 days from the latest of: 1. the day after the delivery of the equipment; 2. the service start date; and 3. the day on which you received a copy of these terms and conditions in printed or PDF format.

I'm stuck on a poor virgin deal (250 Mb Broadband, line rental, anytime chatter) for a huge £50 per month. The contract ends in December and I'm planning to cancel and also drop line rental and anytime chatter.
I hope to recontract either with Virgin or someone else for broadband only and targeting approx £25 per month.
Virgin have proactively emailed me today stating that they have an "exclusive offer" for me to recontract my current "deal".
I clicked on the offer and it is for £60 per month- hahaha
Clearly I am ignoring the offer.
Virgin are so out of touch with reality. Why would anyone entertain spending £10 per month more for the same package. I can't wait to cancel in November. Plenty of good alternative offers (Vodafone for example) which I intend to switch over to. Virgin will need to offer the same deal if they want to keep my custom0 -

Now we have better Openreach alternatives at my address so we have a better bargaining position as we can cancel and move to alternative supplier. Previously I couldn't afford risk of losing internet or switching to inferior speed1 -
Worth giving them a call and saying that you are happy to recontract but has to be a good deal and see what they say/offer. Nothing to lose1

Agreed a new deal as was due to be cut off tomorrow
350Mbps BB (volt boost from 250)
Mega TV
Sky sports
Sky cinema
weekend calls
£48
Could have 500Mbps for additional £6 but can be added at any point so thought I'd leave it at 350Mbps for now
Tried to get it cheaper or with netflix but they weren't for budging on it. Cant complain really1
