  • Our contract ends on 20/9 and we are due to go from £25.01 to £64.18. This is for Volt M250 Broadband with Mixit TV and landline with weekend chatter (although we don't use either, really just use the broadband).

I have now phoned twice (once about two weeks ago and again today), and also went through the chat today and every time the best offer they can give me is £33 (I spoke to retentions). I haven't taken it, because we really don't want to pay that much. it seems that we could get a slightly better offer with Sky for an extra £3 (we had Sky until 18 months ago and actually used the TV, though not much), but again, would rather pay less, not more. Really unsure what to do now. If we cancel and actually go through with the cancellation, we will need to pay the out-of-contract price for some of the month as we still have to give 30 days notice. Is it worth cancelling and hoping for a better deal? For a while I was getting daily calls from Virgin Media which I ignored but they seemed to stop about 2 weeks ago when I first called them right around the time when it was a month to the end of our contract.
  • Just an update that I phoned them again and just cancelled our contract which they accepted without even trying to convince me to stay. I guess I will see whether they phone with a better offer, if not we will take our money elsewhere.

Just recieved an email saying my contract is coming to an end in September and the discounted price I am currently recieving will also end.

Currently paying £97 and its going up to £158  :disappointed: Needless to say I have gave them my intention to cancel!

    Package I have currently is
    M500 Broadband
    Maxit TV
    SkySports & Cinema
    TNT Sports
    Weekend Chatter
    1 extra box.

Any ideas what I should be looking to pay for the above? Ideally wouldn't really want to change anything from my package
Put cancellatIon in and when they come back a few days later with a price ask how much extra for Netflix aswell, this opens up the top package, which it seems they can discount heavily.  I reckon you could get that for around £60-65. Make sure you go through with cancellation though and wait till retentions call you back.  Make sure your marketing preference settings in your account are set so they can call you
Wish I had seen this earlier!

Had my first phone call back today, women was very kind but could only offer me my existing package at the price i'm currently paying ( £97 ) which I still think its very steep compared to what some others have managed to get on here..

So I kindly declined her offer and its now a waiting game to see if they'll phone again.
So a little update on this.

After still not having a call back since the original post above i decided to call retentions myself and see what they could offer, 0203 743 6947 was the number i called

£117 was the cheapest the lady could offer, i nearly burst out laughing on the phone.

Our services are due to be disconnected on 16th September so I guess they could still offer something better but I'm beginning to have my doubts.

Looks like we're going to Sky!
Finally managed to sort a deal out!

    £75 for the following

    1Gig Broadband
    Mega TV
    Netflix
    SkySports & Cinema HD
    TNT Sports
    Anytime Chatter
    1 extra box

Just play the long game with them, usually its resolved a lot quicker but we got there in the end. With less than a week to go until my cut off date I was getting 3+ phonecalls from Virgin every day.

Other than the calls in the last week and the call you made yourself to retentions, did you receive any other outbound retentions calls or did they just wait till last week? Thks

That’s the best plan of attack.  Make sure your marketing preferences are set so they can contact you.  You can always ring them during the 30 days and cancel the cancellation if you want to, and you will still get an offer.  Let’s hope if they haven’t already, they ring you back soon

I cancelled all services on Wednesday (on WhatsApp - not the fastest way to do it as a 50 minute wait on hold, then chat took 45 minutes too to cancel) - outbound phoned on Thursday. I didn't accept the offer as I am hoping to get lower.

Currently £32 ish for Bigger including Maxit, phone line/weekend calls and 1Gb broadband (includes Volt speed upgrade, but sim cancelled ages ago). Price is going up to £105 next month after the 18 month offer ends 😱.

The offer in my online account was around £44 to keep all services, which isn't bad. After cancellation this disappeared, but that is what outbound loyalty phone call offered too.

I am considering my options, as the 1Gb doesn't appear in default packages as a new customer and it costs to upgrade to this if we went back as a new customer (though whether we need that speed I don't know 🤔).

  • Is this a good deal, I was on BB 125 volt for £11 which went up to £11.96 in April (which I know was a fantastic deal) I've had a offer in my account online for £17.03, but because I had that great deal before I'm not sure if the new one is any good?

Given new customers are offered it for £26.50 (£21.23 with a £95 credit on the account) I'd say snatch their hands off. Are you sure you were only paying £11 a month? How did you get that?

Yes it was £11, I got offered a deal after already accepting one, from another outbound retentions staff that didn't know I'd already accepted a new offer, it was from a mobile number and I had to chase it up a lot, but eventually they honoured it, they even thought the caller was a fake at one point, and said it was the best price they had known

Volt 125 would mean being billed as 50 - not sure what the going rate would be for this as they no longer seem to offer it to new customers. If Volt 250 is low 20s, then the current offer would seem in line. I’m a bit wary of clicking anything in the account area in case it doesn’t do what the headline says. Almost got charged for what should have been a free box upgrade once. Other forumites have also accepted an automated discount over the phone only for it to remove other active discounts.
