  • Okay, thanks i will Ignore the automated discount offer

    :)
  • Am i right in thinking that if you call them one day and the deal they offer is crap can you call them on another day and they can do a better deal ?
  • Mine worked out as a 28% increase. Phoned VM and the automated system offered me a £3.50 discount. Continued through to 1st level retentions, offered me a new 18 month contract at my current price with no price increase for 2023, so accepted.
I remember accepted the automated system discount in previous years and as a result I lost my ongoing discounts.  It was a nightmare trying to get them added back on again.  Just be careful.

I ignored the automated discount and went through to an operator.
  • Just had email stating my package was going up by £15, On ringing up automated discount was £7.50, went through to retentions (Option 4) and got a discount of £15 to offset increase until end of contract (Feb 2024)
  • We had a letter saying it would go from £31 to £40 for 125mb broadband and basic TV. Called up, ignored the automated offer which offered £35.50 for 6 months. Operator added a £9/month discount for the remainder of our contract so £22/month for a couple of months and then £31/month after that. No price increase for us then.

As I hadn’t received any notification of a price increase from virgin I decided to contact them via WhatsApp and the agent informed me I won’t be affected by it so have saved a screenshot of the conversation just in case I do see a price increase. No need for me to haggle!  Did explore upgrade offers however felt they weren’t great so left it.

Interesting. I've had nothing either so we shall see.

I had the email telling me of a £7 price increase, so phoned them up on 150. Took the "thinking of leaving" option and ignored the offer of a £3.50 discount before getting a human.
She offered me £7 credit for 2 months AND no increase in May, so actually reduced my current costs a bit. No new contract and existing discounts stay in place. My contract ends in July, so she said it's better to call in June and see what they can offer instead of the jump in price if I do nothing.

Had my email about the nearly 30% price increase last week.  Paying £32.50 p/m for 125 MB broadband, 360 TV basic and phone, with a £9 a month increase from May.  Called and ignored the £4.50 automated discount and was quite surprised I got through to someone straightaway.  Said I wasn't happy with the price increase and wanted to cancel. She put me on hold for about 15 minutes to see what she could do. Eventually she came back to say she could remove the price increase, (I thought great!), but my price would only increase by £2 a month now.  The way she worded it it sounded like she'd done me a favour. I said no, on principle even just £2 a month increase wasn't good enough, I still have a full year left on my contract and I wasn't happy so I'll cancel.  She went away again and low an behold came back to say there would be no price increases and everything on my contract would stay the same.
Unfortunately, she wouldn't give me a written confirmation or anything but said the calls were recorded.  Will see come May!

Edit:  Weirdly I did get an email about 2 hours later. It said my changes have been made and listed them all as "no changes", but it says my new monthly charge will be £23.50!!  That's now £9 cheaper a month than I was paying! I don't quite believe it, but will see if it's true!

I am currently on M50 broadband only at £18 per month, (sufficient for my needs.) Been notified of the increase of £6 per month from 1st May. My contract and £20 discount finishes 26th July 23. Am I correct in thinking I will be paying £24 per month till then. I do realise if I try to negotiate a new deal now I will be starting a new 18 month contract. I was thinking of leaving the negotiations till the 26th of June. (That is of course if I cant be bothered to have the negotiating  dance before the end of March.)
    Any thoughts or advice welcome.
