Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

Hi all
Seems that you have to threaten to cancel to get a better price (what a waste of everyone's time!) I understand that you have to give 30 days notice to cancel, but how does it work if I want to undo my cancellation request? Could I ring them on the day before the actual cancellation date for example, and ask them to continue supplying me?

I paid cancellation 2 months early to upgrade to Gig1 as a new customer (partners name) and retentions called me and gave me the Ultimate Volt for 64 a month and a o2 sim for 20 a month. He said to contact him at the end of my contract for a deal next time too.
They waived the early cancellation charges and the setup charges too.
I will probably go with FTTP as its going down my road now, unless VM come out with the 2.2gbps service by the time i switch.0 -

Could I ring them on the day before the actual cancellation date for example, and ask them to continue supplying me?I have always had the phone call from outbound retentions but if they hadn't I would just call near the end of the 30 days to say I have changed my mind and want to stay, you could then cancel again and see if outbound call this time.I had my outbound call a few days ago and got Volt Gig1 for £40 and £10 for a 10GB O2 sim, have since cancelled the sim through the 14 day cooling off period and bought the same sim through moneysupermarket for £6 (5GB boosted to 10GB with Volt). So £46 for gig broadband / landline with weekend calls and a 10GB sim.0 -
Thanks for that Smeagal. I'm very close to walking away from VM - I just wish I knew what the service of other ISPs was like in my area before committing to an 18 month contract! I'll try cancelling VM and see how I go.
Also (sure it's probably already been mentioned, but might be useful to someone), I have found that every time I phone up, I get a totally different price from whoever I am speaking to.0 -
Just got notice of a 6% increase, I expect their lines will soon be buzzing.0

Just to follow up, I spoke to a third person today after two calls I made yesterday - each person gave me different prices (they were all very high). I asked how I go about cancelling my contract, and he put me through to the cancellations team. The person there offered me a price of just less (50p-ish/month) than what I'm paying currently, and I get to avoid the price rise that is coming. So I accepted that and I should be good for another 18 months. Maybe I could have got a better price by cancelling and then waiting for a callback, but that'll do for me.

A bit of success at last with VM and my broadband bill - £54pcm reduced to £28.
My service consists of M100 broadband and a phone line that I never use. Since 2018 I've let the bill creep up to £54 per month. I've been trying for years to get the phone line removed, but they keep saying that I'd lose my discounts (discounts! What discounts?!) and the cost would increase.
I was quite annoyed then, when I found that they're doing broadband only deals now. https://www.virginmedia.com/broadband/broadband-only . My service is £44 pcm or £26.99 discounted.
Based on this I went on live chat and threatened to cancel the service. Last year it didn't work, they offered to reduce it to £42 pcm and wouldn't budge. This year they offered £33 pcm straight away including the phone line. I asked them to match BT at £29.99 and they beat it with £28 pcm.
Not bad even if I am left with a redundant phone line at £1 per month.

My current M100 (broadband only, no phone, no TV) contract expires on 6 Feb. I currently pay £24/month for this service. From 7 Feb it increases from £24 to £44. I'm happy with the service but not £20/month extra happy!Yesterday, I used the chat messaging to try and haggle a deal, but after waiting 2 hours I still hadn't got through to an agent and had to leave.I tried again first thing this morning (they open at 8am) and got through to an agent after about 15 mins. The agent said that there were no discounts available on a renewal and put me through to the Customer Relations team via a Whatsapp call. They replied to me a while later and tried to convince me to stay with them at my current service @ £44/month, based upon "the quality of our services is incomparable to any providers across UK". Needless to say I declined. The agent then replied with an offer of £46/month for the M320 service (advertised to newbies at £32/month + £50 voucher, £29.23/month equivalent, standard price £56/month). I'd requested a quote for ultrafast M320 based upon having a teen gamer in the family.I again declined. They came back with a final offer of £34/month for the M320 service, which I accepted.I wasn't expecting the newbies £50 voucher and I'd hoped to nail them on £32/month but I still reckon this is an excellent deal for ultrafast broadband normally costing £56/month, and I'd also managed to pre-empt the 6% price hike!0

I’ve just renewed with virgin
Broadband - M350
Tv - mix it with entertainment and documentaries
Phone - with evening and weekend calls
I was paying £57.50 would have gone up to £81 then £85 with latest price rise.
Renewed for £57 for 18 months after getting through to retentions (first customer care agent offered a discount but not as good)
Perhaps I’d id played slightly harder (ie cancelled and waited for outbound retentions) I could have got slightly better but I’m happy enough with this deal1 -
My contract is with 2 promotional discounts for 18 months. Is my contract a fixed term contract or a fixed-price promotion contract0
