  • I thought I read somewhere that the latest round of price increase didn’t apply to broadband only customers ?

Maybe I’m wrong as I’ve just had a letter about it and increase cost

Yes, this is what I'd read & understood also - no increase for Broadband only

If I remember correctly the freeze only applies to Essential Broadband (which is only available to customers in receipt of universal credit) and the Ultimate Volt bundle.

    Here's the MSE article.

I was incorrect about Ultimate Volt. It's the mobile element of Ultimate Oomph that's not affected by a price rise.

Yesterday I cancelled my 100Mb broadband and Talk Weekends, which was going up from £24.50 to £52.50 due to discounts ending. Got the call back this evening, offered and accepted £20 on new 18 month contract. Happy with that.
  • Had the email back in early January saying my monthly payment would be rising from £37 to £41 for 100 speed fibre (boosted shortly with O2 sim to 200), basic TV package and a phoneline we don't use.

Waited until yesterday to ring and cancel as figured their line might be a little quieter a week or so later. There is an automated message saying you can postpone the increase for 6 months by pressing 1. Ignored that and got through to an agent who I told I wanted to cancel. Straight up offered a new 18 month contract with the same package for £24 a month. New contract came through within an hour. I'm pretty sure that deal is cheaper than we paid when we first joined Virgin several years ago!

Very pleased with that. Felt like they offered me £1 off for each minute I was on hold waiting for my call to be answered 😅
