Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

No, that’s expensive. £30 for new customers, w/e calls only. As mentioned on here if you go through the menu on the phone to virgin, get thru to thinking of leaving us. You then explain it’s too expensive at the moment and you want to go somewhere where you can get broadband and calls cheaper, like Sky (£43 equivalent), Now TV or Vodafone for example. That person there will say to you, let me look what I can do and come back with a price. If you not happy with that you can put in a cancellation. That gives you 30 days to look elsewhere or for another department, external retentions, to call you back with a cheaper offer. Remember anytime during that 30 days you can ring back and cancel your cancellation, so in many ways nothing to lose. They don’t ring everyone back, and they are working from home at the moment so may take longer for someone to call you back, and likely to be on your mobile from their work mobile.ginge001 said:Hi all, my elderly mum is shielding and has asked me to contact VM for her to add broadband on to her package so that she can video call us. She is currently paying £29 a month for Mix Tv and evening/weekend calls. I contacted Virgin and they said to add M100 broadband would increase her package price to £53 pcm. Does this sound a good deal? I’m reluctant to leave VM as she is worried about using a new service and also VM said could take time for others to install due to pandemic. Thanks, Claire0 -
Many thanks PZ19. Great advice. They offered me £45 on chat with M100, Mix TV and w/e calls. Then I got disconnected! Can’t get back online with them. Would you accept?

Ginge001. Check out if it will go up in March. I personally would hold on for a better deal but I can totally understand your mum not wanting change and I wonder sometimes if its worth the stress just to get a couple of quid a month off. . Its like playing poker.. I wish I could be like my kids who swap providers at the drop of a hat. I dont have a BT landline so starting to think.. How will I get Tv? im happy with a mobile so not interested in the phone aspect. I was gobsmacked at the cost to fit a freeview aerial. Retentions is the place to be and you have to hope you get a good one!1

Thanks Bettie! Yes, that’s my next question if I ever get back on..if the quote includes the rise in March.Ha! I swap all the time but my mum can just about operate her VM Tv and is scared to switch to a new provider. She’s desperate to video call me and my sister so need to get her online ASAP. She won’t entertain doing it on a phone unfortunately.0

Alternative TV are BT TV ( not very good but uses Now TV subscriptions with Monthly change if required ) Or Sky TV .Both require Open Reach landline and may not be as fast as VM .0

I don’t know if I’m being completely stupid but does anyone know how to reach them online? I can see the. Intact options and it says ‘chat online’ is available 8-8 but there’s no actual link to click to speak to them. I’ve tried on the app too and I just through to an automated bot.0

No ring them on 150 on your mums virgin phone, go thru to thinking of leaving us options and just explain that it’s too expensive.. see what they say and if you don’t like price cancel. People on here are getting 100mb for £20-£24 after putting cancellation in. You have to add tv and phone on, so that will increase price, but not by £21. Entirely up to you, it’s a hassle but should save you money, so long as they ring back and if they don’t you still have 30 days to change your mind on cancelling and seeing what they offer then.ginge001 said:I don’t know if I’m being completely stupid but does anyone know how to reach them online? also any price the retentions team give you should you cancel will shield you from price increase, but just make sure. Also check that if what you get offered phone wise is just weekend calls, cos if your mum uses phone during day it will be expensive call costs. I think.. I never use the phone however1 -
Few extra channels for a month almost for your Mum to watch if she’s interestedginge001 said:I don’t know if I’m being completely stupid but does anyone know how to reach them online? I can see the. haha, ive decided to see what having a mobile router's like. Getting a TP-link one for about £60 and the unlimited Three SIM deal from the weekly email. Three have a good reception round here and I think the speed will be plenty for just me. Plus I can take it away with me, and abroad i believe, too.leew said:Virgin have again sent me the same email as before saying can we convince you to stay blah blah and it lasts 1 week the offer @£27 a mth, err no thanks!!
It's really put me off them as a company, all this messing about they're doing, making up different prices as they go along.#39 - Save £12k in 20251
