Could anyone with better technical knowledge than me (not hard lol) comment on whether something like a £50 EE 4GEE PAYG portable router would be suitable to use for internet access instead of sticking with Virgin or going to a different provider? There's only 2 of us in the house and we only really connect using 2 phones and 2 laptops, rarely at the same time. I cast programs off my phone onto the tv a few times a week. No gaming. I don't know if a mobile router and a PAYG unlimited data SIM would work for us instead but I don't fully understand them, having only ever had Virgin, Plusnet etc. Thanks in advance!

Sorry I tried to find the thread but no luck, anyway I'm paying £44 a months now, I rang up, the woman sounded a bit miserable and belligerent, I said I was thinking of leaving as the switching to Plusnet would save me £392 over the next 18months and she offered to reduce the price to £39.50 if I agreed to another 18month contract, I said that wasn't good enough and that was it. Did I go wrong, what are other people managing to pay? I even pointed out that for new customers it's 18 months at £26 for a faster service that I have and I'm only 12months in.
Shall I just actually leave them? I'm not sure I can right now anyway because of lockdown, I guess if I switch to Plusnet someone might need to come round to set it up? Or will it all just work through the existing wiring?

How long left on current contract ??
Plusnet does not use the VM infrastucture only VM use it .
Plusnet will be OpenReach network ,nothing of Virgins stuff will work .
Speed to you depends , put your postcode in the PN checker .
Their may be line reprovisioning fees .
You may lose current phone number and any VM email .

    Yes its possible
  • Hi.  I called virgin last week to give them my 30 days cancellation notice,  2 days later they called me from retentions and we came to a upgrade deal.
    The deal was
200mbs Broadband,  basic TV, Phone, sim card, all for £35

    Current broadband 100mbs is £25,

They said I would receive the details via email,  unfortunately I haven't,  I logged i to my account and it looks they have the wrong email address,  so I contacted virgin today to get a copy of the new contract and to get the email they send the contract to changed,

They told me we have no record on our system of retentions calling me and doing that deal. In the end they passed me onto another adviser who said when retentions call you it can take 5-7 days for them to pass the information over to us about the deal they offered you and agreed to.

I got a feeling there pulling a fast one m with me. Because my current t broadband is 100mbs,  when retentions offered me 200mbs they said it will take about 24 hours to update.  Ive checked my speed daily and its still on 100mbs,  and when I rang virgin they said they had no record on my account of any upgrade from the outbound team,   its starting to give me doubts about there just telling you they will give you that deal put not follow it through on there system and just blag you.

Anybody else experienced this or is this how retentions work and it takes 5-7 days for them to pass the details on about the deal to the relevant team?

    Regards

  • I signed up with Virgin Media in 2019 for a 12 month contract at £25/month for 100 Mbps fibre-plan - with first three months free.

Then in 2020, I was offered renewal at £24/month for another 12 month contract, and offer to switch one month early.

Now again in 2021, they are offering me £23/month and letting me switch one month early - but at 18 months contract on same 100 Mbps fibre plan.

I feel a £1/month discount is very low loyalty discount - but I don't have any benchmark to compare. So will appreciate if experts could share if this is a good deal. I am usually uncomfortable with 18 months plan but the person on phone said there is no other option.

well if you can't find a similar deal elsewhere for that price, its a no brainer.  Might depend on whether you actually need that sort of speed.  If not, check BT based providers.

When I phoned after the price they quoted was not the price on the email, there was about 6 hours between calls and there was a file of some sort that they referred to and the bloke could read back the quote. I wonder if they get the maths wrong and delete stuff in the hope it wont be noticed as  there didn't seem to be any mention of what I was originally told.

    A further update...
Sunday came and went with no response at all and this morning (Monday, day eight ) I've got the usual "Do you still need help?"

Is this some sort of sick joke that VM have set up or what? My patience and my relationship with them is wearing very thin now.
