In order the get half decent deal you must follow through with disconnection and then wait for call back from outbound team they will call you within 30 days (its about playing the game)
  • OK....so, I have decided to play the chicken game with them as I am way out of contract and currently paying way over the odds.  I gave them 30 days notice today and they played hardball, told me that they couldn't do anything and quickly registered my cancellation (guessing they are flooded with people doing the same thing with the price rises so are adopting a different strategy).  How late should I leave it for a retention call before I blink (as I cannot risk being disconnected) ?  Thanks.

They will ring you back within a few days, it’s busier now obviously with their staff working from home and non retentions staff also helping out.  If they don’t ring you back then you still have 30 days to change your mind

not too sure if I got a good deal...
I was paying £56.50 for Maxit TV + Second Box + M200 Broadband + Telephone, my bill was set to go up to £90

I rang up and spoke to someone in retention and told them I would be interested in having faster broadband and a sim card, I spoke to someone who said the best price they could do would be £71..I said I would think about it. I called back a few days later and was told the previous person I spoke to priced it wrong..it should be £81 as they forgot to add the second box. However, as a good will gesture they would honor it at £71 so I went ahead...

I am now paying £71 for Maxit TV + Second Box + M350 + Telephone + 5GB SIM  (New customers would be paying £69).

I really wanted to join Sky but there Broadband isn't quick enough...I am lucky enough to live in an area with native FTTP but I feel 150MB will feel a little slow when I've been using 200mb for the past 12 months.
Sounds expensive that..you probably should have put cancellation in..however it’s not a given they call back with better offer, but at your contract price they probably would have.  Mind you with everyone back to wfh, could be long delay in calling back. I doubt you would have noticed the speed difference to be honest..remember back in the day cut back to 50mb from 100mb, didn’t notice it much on normal browsing and streaming..

Thanks I can't really fault the service and £2 more a month than new customers  is not too bad I guess...would of really loved the ultimate oomph bundle for this price but like I said I can't fault the service....

In regards to the speed yes I agree with you for streaming and browsing there will be little difference but in my job I have to download big data sets from anywhere between 300 GB - 800 GB at a time so the extra speed helps!
With my cancellation I got offered the ultimate oomph for £79..didn’t need the extra box, sim or movies though.
  • On the Oomph bundle, admittedly i pay too much but i'm happy enough with what I'm paying.
All TV including sky, BT sports, movies, 500mb broadband, sim etc.
Currently paying £99. Email to increase to £134. Went on live chat, best the retentions team could do was £117.50. Phoned up best they could do was £114.50. Transferred to the oomph team who offered me £95 for 18 months.

I'm guessing I could have got this cheaper but a like for like package was £95 elsewhere and I didn't want to leave due to broadband speeds. Happy though as don't need to worry about it for 18 months.

Which live chat did you use?

I was logged in but on the new customer bundle page. Live Chat button appears on the right hand side then got to wait about 2 hours for someone maybe longer. The first guy didn't help and it took him about an hour but then he sent me through to the customer relations/retentions team with another 1 hour 30 wait. They managed to help last year but straight up he told me their best price with no movement so I had to phone up.

Who did you phone? I had a similar experience to you via live chat and they couldn't offer me a good enough deal so I told them to cancel my broadband, that was around 10 days ago and no one has rang me.

I thought Retentions had to ring you not the other way around?

I phoned the standard number 0345 454 1111 and they had a file note on my account from the live chat. Just said I was unhappy and live chat told me to phone up. Maybe they haven't rang because you did it through live chat? First guy on that number couldn't help and then he said i'll transfer you through to the oomph team who will be able to help - couldn't help as in give me a good price. Maybe phone up and ask if they can offer anything and quote a price to compare. Let me know how you get on!

I see Virgin have been busy sending emails out today. First one was to tell me the price is going up by £3.50 a mth from Mar and then after I get this one which is quite funny as its more expensive than I got offered on live chat!!
