Just got off the phone with retention, they called after putting in my cancellation yesterday.  Was paying £61 for tv with 2 boxes/phone and 200mb.  This was the easiest call ive ever had with virgin, didnt even had to haggle, i got rid of tv and wanted just broadband/phone, first offer for 200mb broadband only was £31, with phone line was £34, and for 350mb he said £36!  So took the £36! Well chuffed with that.  Iive signed upto sky for my tv tv though.  Another great price with them aswell.

Can I ask what you paid for Sky TV, please?

Hi, i got 1tb UHD sky Q, signature pack with netflix, multiscreen with mini box, sky HD and kids for £31.
  • Hi guys. Thanks to this thread I managed to haggle, but I didn't get the best deal. I was on £29 for M100, Mixit TV and Phone. It was going up to something ridiculous like £59 per month. I called the cancellation team they offered £35 for the same package I said I need to think about it. Then I called them again a few hours later I was waiting for like 20 minutes and then someone actually called me from the same number which was odd. He offered me £30 for the same package which I accepted. Can I still cancel this and wait for the proper retention team or it is too late now?

My understanding is your new deal has started a new contract, so you have the 14 day cooling off period to cancel without penalty.

As it is new contract if I cancel would I be contacted by the retention team or it is too risky?

Cancelled TV and just kept 200Mb for £40 a month. They then called back the next day and gave me 200Mb and Basic TV for £38 a month.
:money: Matched betting total 2016 £455
  • Previously I was on the 'Bigger Oomph Bundle' comprising Maxit TV, M350 Fibre Broadband, Phone with Talk Weekends & a 15GB Mobile SIM. Cost for first 12 months was £68/month. Introductory offer period was due to expire early July with bill set to increase to £99/month.

    1) Called VM to discuss options, also looking to add Sky Sports to my package. The best price I was offered for same package as above + Sky Sports was £95.
    2) Found a TV package with Sky that I was happy with, but they couldn't provide Internet at my address, so got a price of £39/month for M200 broadband only (no phone) with VM. Got a price of £40/month with BT for 350MB fibre + PAYG phone line + BT Sports. Served notice with VM to cancel all services from end of contract.
    3) Received a call from VM next working day offering me a package of all TV (incl. BT and Sky Sports, excl. Sky Cinema), M350 fibre + phone for £69/month - so £1 more than I was previously paying, with the addition of Sky Sports but without the mobile SIM.

I have just picked up a £10/month 10GB SIM from EE (Uswitch exclusive) so overall, my costs have increased £11/month but I now have Sky Sports included in my package - and I'll have saved £240 vs. if I had let the VM contract run on (without the upgrade to Sky Sports), and £192 vs. the previous 'best price' their retentions team offered me. Pretty happy with that.

It might be a faff (especially as I now have to cancel the Sky and BT contracts - easy enough as I'm in the 'cooling off' period), but I can confirm that the way to get the best pricing from VM is to cancel your contract and then have them contact you. The VM rep I spoke to earlier confirmed he had access to discounts which the standard retentions team (that you get through to if you follow the 'thinking of leaving us' option when you call VM) do not.

That seems very expensive for the services you have - looking on this forum and elsewhere sub £30 should be achievable?
