Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

They won't have any need if they reconnect the phone line from the virgin box to the green bt one. But I agree to check to make sure before you go cancelling fully. Carphone warehouse was offering good deals and TCB toostaffsuk said:
Be wary of leaving if you're expecting to go back to broadband via a BT landline. Openreach are no longer going into people's property to deal with new lines or reconnection issues due to Covid-19. That and the dates for an appointment were in June when I enquired. It may be different in your area, you will need to enquire. My old BT line wasn't used for 12 years, and it was registered as disconnected, meaning Openreach would likely need to enter my property. They could give me no timescale on this, aside from suggesting it would be when social distancing guidance had been lifted, and who knows when that will be... If you do cancel your VM contract, you have 30 days to reverse your decision and stay with them.gowzerneo said:Virgin completely refusing to reduce my cost despite the rises. Err no. The two sets of infrastructure, Virgin and Openreach are completely separate. There are NO connections between Virgin street cabs and OR street cabs. As #staffsuk said, if reconnecting the OR line does need a home visit, then that's not going to happen anytime soon.only_mee said:

Just spoke with Virgin as need to reduce monthly outgoing due to being placed on furlough.
As usual the were unable to offer new customer deals but were able to offer a retention deal (12 months at £40 on current service).
Advised the maximum I could afford was £30 a month so suggested removing services to Broadband only however this increased cost to £50 per month. Do not understand how the justify charging more for less particularly in current circumstances.
Also contacted BT to see if it would be possible to move to Broadband with them however they advised that land line would require upgrade so not able to do this until June 2020.0 -
If you want Broadband only do you need any more bandwidth than 20Mbps? See my post above re: M20 which is now uncapped.Peter_87 said:Just spoke with Virgin as need to reduce monthly outgoing due to being placed on furlough.

I called virgin 4 days ago to try and sure up our BB contract that finishes in early May.
I asked to be retained on one of the new contracts that included TV and was told - No that’s for new customers only.I’m currently paying £30 for BB and it goes up to £51 at end of contract.I then asked what they could offer me.They offered me BB £33/mth 12 month contract or
BB and TV for £43/mth 12 month contract.
I said that it want really good enough and I am considering disconnecting. The quickly reminded me that Openreach isn’t doing any connections until June.
So basically they know they’ve got you until at least June and won’t be offering much help.0 -
Hi - my virgin media package was coming to an end - I contacting virgin I verbally agreed a new 12 month contract(same as I was paying) I’ve just got my bill through and it’s jumped to the figure I had been quoted after the finish of my contract £133.50 pm - the deal I had agreed on was £80.50pm - due the current circumstances they have closed a lot of there call centres, so can’t speak to anyone to resolve the problem - any ideas?? (Doesn’t seem anyway to contact them0

Their phone lines are still working - they are taking a long time to answer, as their call centres have been hit around the world due to Coronavirus, but you can get through eventually (go hands free and get on with something else while you are waiting 🙂).Mattbolton said:Hi - my virgin media package was coming to an end - I contacting virgin I verbally agreed a new 12 month contract(same as I was paying) I’ve just got my bill through and it’s jumped to the figure I had been quoted after the finish of my contract £133.50 pm - the deal I had agreed on was £80.50pm - due the current circumstances they have closed a lot of there call centres, so can’t speak to anyone to resolve the problem - any ideas?? Virgin use their own phone lines and general infrastructure. They don't re-use BT lines in the same manner as other providers at all...only_mee said:Ok ta How do virgin get the phoneline from bt to themselves?0
