  • Hi

Am new to the forums and wanted to get some advice.

Have put through a cancellation today with Virgin Media for our landline and tv but to keep the broadband mainly due to the constant price hikes and not using either the tv box or landline much.

Are VM Retentions likely to call when you're only cancelling part of the package, seen a lot of people comment on here when they have cancelled the full package but not partial.

    Thanks in advance.

    hi whattochoose
It looks like you were pretty much in the same boat as we were, we had a sky sports discount which expired and with the price increase our bill had shot up to £101 from around £87 or so per month.

What we did is phone up and spoke to the department whom deal with cancelling and well we ended up cancelling.. they phoned us back ,less than 24hrs later and we are paying just over £70 per month.Though it seems on this thread it seems most people have had a call back but it is a gamble .

Sorry cant comment on other broadband providers im afraid
hope this may be of help
Thanks bobbyhibs. In the past Virgin have been prepared to allow me a loyalty discount, but they don't seem to be playing ball now. My annoyance with them is compounded by the fact they no longer offer the option to renew the rental line saver, not to mention that if you go to the trouble of pressing buttons to get through to their cancellations dept, you just seem to end up speaking to somebody in general enquiries.
As mentioned my RLS doesn't expire until January 2020, so there's no immediate rush, but come then I'll do what you did if they're not prepared to make me some kind of decent offer.
In the meantime I'll familiarize myself with all the money saving offers out there offered by their rivals.
    Thanks again.

  • Thanks for the tips whattochoose
  • I'm a very fair and loyal customer, have been with Virgin for 7 years now. Everytime they send one of those letters when they are putting up the price, I check online to see what new customers get. Suprise surprise when it turns out less. So I show them and get them to match the price and they usually add £10-20 credit for the inconvenience.

This was the first time I couldn't manage to get the credit, so they agreed to up the speed of the broadband for the same price. Should be getting 300mb, just did a test and I'm getting 383mb, crazy speeds.

Giving a one-off credit to offset price increases seems to be their latest ploy, instead of offering a monthly credit which is in reality worth more.
As for their DOWNLOAD speeds, they are hard to beat, but who really needs 100Mbps+? They are reliable and you do get the speeds touted IME, but their UPLOAD speeds are significantly slower than any other competitor using the OpenReach fibre network.

100Mbps down on VM gets you a paltry 6Mbps up.
BT superfast2 (also FTTC like VM) gives around 60Mbps down and 16Mbps up.

VM customer services have repeatedly told me they have no plans to improve the upload speed.

I agree, for example right now I'm getting 370mb download and 35mb upload and that's about a 10:1 ratio.

The download speeds are insane, I can download full 4k content in minutes.

Read the advice on here and called them on Sunday morning.

They offered me £3.50 off for 6 months (So £44.50 for 100mb + Phone, Bills gone up from £32 to £47) :)
(It's currently £26 for new customers)

So, Asked for my months notice (to leave) to start, hopefully they'll give me a call before then :/

Including Sky Sports I pay £103.11 a month. Time for a call methinks.
