    Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to get a better deal from Virgin for our current package (100MB, 'Fun' TV and Talk Anytime Phone).

Parents are currently paying £79pm for this which seems ridiculously high compared to what some people are getting on here. The guy on the end of the phone was adamant he couldn't go below £62pm for this package. Feel like this is still very high (even with the bare bones basic TV package he could only offer £59pm).

I said we were going to go ahead and proceed with the cancellation and sign up with Sky and he was reluctant to let me give my notice of cancellation and saying I needed to call Sky first to be able to keep my current number.

Where do I go from here?

    Thanks

Further to my post yesterday, got called today (they must look on here::D) they offered £44 for 200mb, maxit tv, weekend calls. So it can’t hurt for you to cancel and see if they call back.

You can cancel and sign up as a new customer in another name at the same address if retention's do not play ball.

I have just done this. The cancel has been set up for a day and the new contract set up for the next day. So no loss of service.

Do you mean you signed up with the name of someone also living at the address, or in a false name? I live on my own so no-one else here to use :(, but if false works...
  • hi
we have been with virgin since the telewest days.
Phoned virgin today to try get our virgin media bill down with no luck and now i am a lil worried!

We have 2 tivo boxes 100 internet speed(mb?) and weekend calls. For the last year we have paid in and around £85-£89 per month.
Now with the price hike-loyalty discount,Our bill has increased to around £101!

Anyhow i phoned this morning was on hold for around 25 mins and in a nutshell all the lady could offer is £91 ,I was hoping for better so said i ll pass and just cancel.
She then asked if i d consider taking JUST the broadband i declined
so she said we will send out a bag(or boxes) for the virgin media items and she wished me luck!

    A few questions
1,should i expect a call back in the next few days?(seems like alot of people have gotten a call back but not all?)
2.what would be a resonable price for 2 boxes....for most channels..sports channels... documentaries, alot of free view channels..NO movie channels needed?
3.if the worst comes to the worst is changing to BT an easy process?

    any help-advice most welcomed!
sorry for the long winded thread

Best bet is to have a play with https://store.virginmedia.com/build-your-bundle

Choose any address that can get Virgin, follow "I'm new to Virgin and moving here" and just follow a dummy order through to get an idea as to new customer prices.

They are not under any obligation to call you back, but that’s a lot of revenue to be losing so I suspect they will. Department is called Outbound customer loyalty or retentions, they will offer you far cheaper price to keep you. If they don’t ring and you are actually prepared to leave then Sky are doing cheap deal at minute for everything but obviously their internet isn’t great. If they don’t ring and you don’t actually want to leave then you just cancel your cancellation before the end date and continue as normal. You will probably get the sports and everything except movies for around £60 plus whatever they charge for extra TiVo box . I suspect you could negotiate that too. If you lose the sports like i said earlier 200mb max it tv and w/ecalls I got offered for £44 yesterday.

    hi
and all thanks to good people on these sorta threads though and the kind replies
  • I'm on countdown with Virgin. In October my loyalty discounts expire. However I also have an active Rental Line Saver which expires in January so it would be silly to leave before then.
However, what I'm going to do until January, perhaps once/twice a month, is to ring them to see what discounts they are prepared to offer - so far very little.
I rang in August and also a few days ago but so far all they are prepared to offer is cancellation of the current price increase (about £3). Also each time I've clicked on to the "thinking about leaving" department I just get put through to their general enquiries department which I think is a call centre in India.
I've been with Virgin a long time, not to mention their predecessors, so it really rankles they do not value their long-time customers.
If I do go ahead and sever my ties with them, what I'll really miss is their broadband service, which I've mostly found to be excellent.
With this in mind, can anybody advise the broadband quality of other providers. I hear, for example, that Sky and BT are not that great?
    Thank you.
  • hi whattochoose
It looks like you were pretty much in the same boat as we were, we had a sky sports discount which expired and with the price increase our bill had shot up to £101 from around £87 or so per month.

What we did is phone up and spoke to the department whom deal with cancelling and well we ended up cancelling.. they phoned us back ,less than 24hrs later and we are paying just over £70 per month.Though it seems on this thread it seems most people have had a call back but it is a gamble .

Sorry cant comment on other broadband providers im afraid
hope this may be of help
