Three people said they couldn’t do anything as I was already receiving a £5 discount. Then went to retention’s who still wouldn’t do anything. I should have tried sooner but now I have to decide what to do. The engineer who installed my new TiVo box today said I should give notice then come back as a new customer☹️0

As far as i'm aware only way to get to retentions is cancel the account,Iv'e done it every year since virgin started.
Yes, I think you’re right. How long does it normally take them to get back to you.0 -

I've done that for the last few years too.
However it look like this time I might be out of luck... We are due to be cut off on 28th Jan and so far there has been no call from the retentions team.
My back up plan is to use an unlimited 4g sim and tether from that. Like many people nowadays, we don't need a landline.
When we eventually move I may register again with Virgin as a new customer, if there are any really good deals around, and if we find that 4g tethering is not working for us.0 -

I hope that they get in touch with you. I can’t pretend to know what 4g tethering means. If I cancelled but they didn’t contact me I guess I could always say I’ve had a change of heart and wanted to stay, if I was desperate. I don’t use my landline so would I be able to get rid of that?0 -

I'm not a techie by any means, and no doubt someone can explain it better than me, but I'll have a go:
I will buy an extra mobile phone sim card (Virgin and Three both have unlimited data at the moment at far less per month than my virgin broadband).
I will then put this in a spare mobile phone to broadcast a wifi signal, which I will connect my laptop/ smart tv to (aka tethering). The sim card can also be used in a small device call a "mifi" to create a mini wifi network. I've also discovered that you can get a (4g) router to put the sim card in, which acts like a "normal" router.
One advantage of this as far as I can see (in addition to the lower cost) is that I will no longer get unsolicited calls about my "Windows" or "PPI claim" or "BT broadband"
The only major disadvantage is the loss of the TIVO box, which we like but can live without for a saving of £30 per month0 -
Good idea but just be prepared the download/streaming may be severely slow compared to whatever you’re on now.0

Recently had a call after cancelling, it appears VM have stopped offering great deals through their outbound retentions team as has been mentioned on here.
They place an emphasis on how their broadband is the best but there are many providers who can deliver reasonable speeds over fibre.
The cost to keep a landline is too much considering it doesnt get used as much so should be competitively priced.
Guess its time to move on.0 -

VM have not stopped offering good retentions deals - see the examples on Hotukdeals and other forums, including this from earlier this week:

It sometimes requires patience for them to call back - reports suggest that sometimes placing your order with your new provider including a number transfer can prompt their outbound team into action. Just remember that some providers charge upfront non-refundable fees, so if you end up changing your mind in the cooling off period and taking up VM's offer then you need to be clear what charges you may still need to pay. You have your new provider deal or whatever VM then offer to make your decision.0 -
That's good to hear. Although on hukd it was mentioned with 100MB BB and cheapest phone it was £28pm. Although if we were to add anytime calls which cost about £8pm i.e. £36pm. However BB on its own at £17.83 over 12 months or £19.22 over 18 months is cheap.
Price is not as competitive with phone and BB considering landline is rarely used these days.
