Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

I never had reason to speak to an advisor - it was all ordered online to ensure that the cashback tracked.
It's therefore unwise for you to advise others to do the same...you just have to tick moving to this address rather than existing0 -

So are you really recommending people lie on their application form?
I am not recommending anything, merely highlighting it is technically possible to sign up as a new customer. The Virgin system only lets you have one named customer, therefore if that is not you then you are a new customer.0 -

The contract applies to the household.
New customer deals are for new customers, not the partners of existing ones.
This is really not up for debate.
As I said, you were simply lucky that no one at virgin or Quidco caught on to your very obvious deception.I am not recommending anything,If negotiations fail, Virgin can sometimes work out cheaper going back as a new customer (in your partners name if you have this option available) with Quidco/Topcashbsvk and new customer deals on their website.0 -
Ended up agreeing to this:
Fun TV (L)
VIVID 100 Optical Fibre
Weekend Calls
£50 credit
With line rental
Works out around £44.33 per month, so about £8 per month cheaper than what I am paying now. 12 mth contract - £96 saving. Not amazing but still a saving.0 -

But earlier you did exactly that:
The contract is in one person's name, Virgin do not have joint accounts as has been confirmed on the Virgin website (see https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Forum-Archive/Adding-a-name-to-an-account/td-p/3567698). If you have left, as I had, I am no longer an existing customer - I am a former customer? From memory, as my wife applied to join a few days after disconnection (we had switched to BT then thought better of it) then she went straight through as a new customer as the system did not show the address as already connected.
If clicking on new customer rather than existing is deception, then many on MSE would also be guilty, as it is well known new customer offers for many companies are better than existing customer deals and therefore starting a new contract can be the better option - I followed (and repeated) advice previously given. On the actual application form all details have to be entered, including address for the past 3 years which has to be correctly entered for the credit check.
We are in contract anyway, having joined at the start of the year and renewed the existing contract through retentions at a reduced price following the price increase.0 -
You give 30 days notice so have 30 days for them to phone back/arrange a new deal. Giving notice moves you on to the outbound retentions team who can offer better deals.
Well I've just had a call from the virgin team asking me to stay, and have managed to retain my 100mb for £27 for 12 months instead of the £38 I was paying and I also got a an extra £50 credited to my account plus an extra 6 months at the discounted price of £27 per month.
I'm well chuffed as at 1st as I was offer the 50mb for £27 per month until I declined.
So with the £50 credit it works out at £24.22 per month over 18 months, almost went with Vodaphone's 63mb at £24.YNAB is my new best friend.0 -

It's possible to lie on all manner of application forms in order to obtain financial reward, but that doesn't mean you should...0 -

We will agree (or not) to differ - starting as a new customer (particularly when Mrs Anon has every right to when we weren't customers) is not deceptive. No lies were put on the application form, and it would be daft to do so as there is a credit check.0 -
No lies were put on the application formyou just have to tick moving to this address rather than existing
As I've said all along, I'm not judging you for this-just stating that your advice to others to do the same is unwise (and very likely to fail in most instances).
You were fortunate that Virgin incompetence allowed you to do this.0 -
