    Retentions called me back.

    I am currently on:

    Currently
    Fun TV (L)
    VIVID 100 Optical Fibre
    Talk Weekends
    Total £36.44

    Line Rental £16.33

    £52.77

    They offered:

    Fun TV (L)
    VIVID 100 Optical Fibre

    £50 credit

no line rental £39.33 per mth incl credit
with line rental £44.33 per mth incl credit

    I politely declined.
  • I'm on
Broadband 100 plus phone weekends only
    £34 including line rental.

I used to be paying line rental in advance, but apparently not anymore as retention agent tried to renew it to reduce the annual amount and failed.
Her best offer was £29 for same service. I politely declined and went ahead with disconnection.

She said she could offer 50 Mbps vivid for £21 pm but it wouldn't be suitable for my use as we may both be using streaming services at the same time. Shows how weak the provision is at peak when 100 Mbps is minimum necessary for 2 people.

Nowtv offer 36 Mbps with 12 month contract, no set up fee; £23.50 pm. I wonder if bt are just as bad at peak, or if it would cope?
  • If you say 50Mbps is not good enough for your use then 36Mbps from Nowtv will also be a non starter! Maybe you will find that the VM offer is not such a bad deal. For example Super Fibre 50Mbps average from BT is £35.99.

It is nonesense - 50 is plenty for most households. Fibre from other providers is less than this for most people and they survive perfectly well.

Cancelling should hopefully result in better deals offered by outbound. The Line Rental Saver is no longer offered for new customers, but if you have it already you can renew, so long as it is before the renewal date (they are hiding it and not notifying people to renew, so that when you notice in many cases it is too late!).

Good luck! Hopefully you should get an outbound retentions call.

When considering alternatives, a reminder to look at Quidco, TopCashback and other deals first - there can be offers of giftcards on the sites too that may stack with cashback. For example with BT the prices (upfront/setup/delivery and monthly fee) can change depending which route you take into the site, as can the giftcards.

If negotiations fail, Virgin can sometimes work out cheaper going back as a new customer (in your partners name if you have this option available) with Quidco/Topcashbsvk and new customer deals on their website.
  • Nowtv can't port my number from virgin. Virgin say it can be done by some resellers. Any way of acquiring the old number once I have cancelled the virgin service and moved to nowtv?

I have been told by the nowtv agent that the minimum service will be 34 Mbps and that should be fine for our use. Normally it should be 40 Mbps.

The upload speed will actually be better, as virgin gives 6 Mbps for 100 vivid service and nowtv supports 10 Mbps on the 39 to 40 Mbps service.

You can only transfer a number during sign up I think - you have no right to the number unfortunately and no way of requesting a specific number. We had it before where BT claimed they could not port the Virgin number as it was assigned to a different exchange in our area. On our last change we lost the number after 15 years, but realised few people call us on it anyway. I placed an order with TalkTalk including number transfer and Virgin called the following day (they get notified quickly!) and negotiated our deal to stay ... then cancelled a TalkTalk.
  • @anon VM is acting oddly.
I received a call from outbound team this morning no offer, but it ended with a promise to call back, 4 hours later no call back.
I rang VM and spoke to someone in retentions who said that he can't give me an update on current offers, I have to wait for the outbound team.
Meanwhile, Plusnet has an offer that is as good as the one that I was told I couldn't qualify for, £21 for vivid 50.
  • The outbound team rang. I accepted the following:
Vivid 50 plus line rental £24 pm
    2 free months
    £50 credit
12 month contract, discount for 18 months

2 months free and £50 credit or 2 months free added as a £50 credit?

    Good deal either way.

    Well done!
