iD Mobile Network - Any Good?
Options
Have just been reading about a new virtual network being launched by carphonewarehouse. The're calling it iD - details (not many yet) are at http://idmobile.co.uk/ Due to launch in May. Using Three as carrier.
No idea, yet, what pricing will be like, but they make lots of claims about being customer-friendly - which may or may not turn out to be true!
You can sign up for their news by email - which might give early notice of offers.

I was just about to move from a monthly Three SIM only contract (£13 per month) to the £10 per month but 12 month contract version when I found out they've put all their prices up and now the £10 contract is £11.
So instead of just going for it, I've done some googling and found there are cheaper options - the one that is of most interest is the new iD Mobile network. It's set up by Carphone Warehouse and uses the Three network.
In theory it'll be the same standard of coverage I currently get but the almost same tariff I am currently on (ie still monthly contract) will be £10 a month, rather than £13.
I'm just wondering a few things --
Will all the things I get with Three work with iD too? I can use my allowance abroad and also have a app called 'Three in Touch' that is useful - can that be used with iD too? Anyone know?
Thanks.0 -

Neither Three inTouch or Feel at Home will work on iD.
There is no calling app available and iD have a similar roaming facility but they only offer it to their customers on higher price plans.====0 -

Only offering the roaming facility to higher price plan customers is a bit mean. I'll have to think about this one...0 -

It is, especially as they didn't mention it was reserved for the top spenders in their initial publicity.
Shouldn't really be surprised, it is ultimately Dixons CarPhoneWarehouse, after all.
You have to spend at least £25.50 to get the roaming add-on (the 'Takeaway' tariffs).

More countries are covered by iD than with Three themselves - it seems attractive to me as I travel to Greece more often than any of the countries covered by Three's own roaming agreements.
That said, iD's tariffs seem like a lot of money given all the allowances are much smaller than similar priced tariffs on Three.0 -

EU roaming for "no extra cost" is something the EU have been trying to push the networks into providing for some time. There is a suggested date of Dec 2015 for implementation, see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26866966
So in theory at least, all networks should include "free" roaming in Greece by the end of the year...
Three include 4GB of tethering in some of their tariffs, iD specifically do not allow tethering. It may, or may not, be an issue for yourself, but it's handy at times even if you mostly use WiFi.0 -
Thanks - I am aware of the regulations but the plans are actually being delayed to 2018 - see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-31737635
As an aside note I would rather use mobile data than WiFi when abraod as you can't always trust who is able to see your data on a WiFi conenction. It's more secure on a mobile connection IMHO. I use my bank apps (for example) quite a lot and I would be concerned with using the WiFi.0 -
Looking at Samsung S5 mini deals & new company ID are doing a deal for £17.50 with 1gb of data
Need to know what ID are like? Ok or avoid?0 -
If you mean idmobiles then they are part of Carphone Warehouse .0
