If you really believe you can put aside the attraction, why did you come on here and ask the question ? You must have had some doubt in your mind or you would have just gone ahead and done whatever you wanted if you thought there was nothing wrong with it....

You'd be surprised, even I was shocked at my last Xmas party by 1 or 2.
Well maybe everybody is boring at the companies I've worked for, but I've never seen any drunken snogging between anybody.

If you/they have partners I say fair play, as I dislike cheaters.

Not sure it's a wind up, the OP has a lot of posts.

But it has been a waste of time as the OP had no intention of taking any advice that didn't agree with her 'I'm attracted to this work colleague, I want to be his friend, I want to invite him to my house but only when my husband has had the 'decency' to !!!!!! off out of the way' attitude.

I feel sorry for the husband.

Not a wind up. That is madness.

No I wouldn't invite him to the house alone for a good while and my hubby is always here, I don't ask him to go out.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Well for starters I don't think he fancies me, he told me he likes me the other day and I am sure he meant as friends. Anyway I would never cheat, I hate cheaters. Mainly just wondering if straight members of the opposite sex can be friends.

You're planning all these things you want to do with him, drinks, cinema, nights at yours, and you haven't even asked the guy if he wants to be friends yet! He might not want anything to do with you outside work, just all seems abit strange to me.

We were talking about this yesterday and he agreed we were friends.

I'm not sure if you've said how old you are but this sounds very immature to me.

I think a lot of posters have said 'yes, you can'. I know I can (and am).

However, when you throw this into the ring:

I met a guy at work who I find attractive (he doesn't know this) and we have sort of started a friendship, but i am a bit worried about continuing as I don't want things to get awkward at work.
I'm not sure the answer is the same.

Not sure why that sounds immature?

Attraction can be ignored so no big deal.

It's just not healthy for people in relationships to have friends of the opposite sex. It's maybe more acceptable in later life, when the 'sex thing' diminishes a bit?

So anyone under the age of 50 (or whenever sex diminishes...) has to get rid of all their opposite gender friends if they are in a relationship??? Good lord.

Glad Im not in a r'ship with some of the people on this thread!! I am female, I have male friends that I have zero attraction to, zero sexual attraction to and I have no interest at all in being with them in any sort of way other than being friends. They feel the same about me. Its called being a grown up.

"He told me he likes me" sounds like something you'd hear in the school playground. Not at work.
