Good morning turtles.
Today is Thursday which usually means the hashtag #TBT will be trending. So let us all take a second to think back to when our finances were in a worst state than they are now. Wither you’ve just started on your journey or you’re now debt free, pat yourself on the back and keep going!
What has made me happy?
Being prepared. I’ve prepped all my meals for the next 5 or so days.
One thing I done for someone else?
I bought a surprise little present from the ASOS sale for my GF for her holiday which I’m sure she’ll appreciate.
Frugal tip?
Keep receipts. I’ve a drawer with all my receipts for gifts and the like just in case there’s a fault. Saves a headache and some cash if there are problems.0 -
Nearly forgot...another NSD yesterday for me. I'll update my sig just now!0

Oh, That's lovely, I'm sure she'll appreciate that.
Good morning!
Done a Tesco online order this morning to pick up tonight. This will avoid having to drag the kids through the shop tonight or tomorrow. Needed some specialised (i.e. can't get in LIDL) ingredients for DH's birthday cake and drinks for the party. Also stocked up on toiletries and other things that were on offer and needed. Will get the meat for the bbq on Sat etc from LIDL or Aldi on Sat.
So my frugal tip for today is (if you have kids or a partner) leave them at home or do the shop online to avoid unexpected items in the bagging area :rotfl:. Although I have the kids quite well under control, DH is worseDEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
Apple - hope it all starts to ease up soon x
Thrifty - yeay for new phone
Been MIA as have just been v busy. Exam season is here and I'm invigilating at 2 secondary schools and am in most days morning and afternoon sessions from this week through until 27/06 - usually one in one school and then the other in the other, leaving me with as little as 40 mins in between as start times have been changed since I agreed my dates. Add DS1 starting his GCSEs this week and DD has a resit of an AS this week (A2s starting after half term) and OH travelling to London a couple of times a week for interviews and it's fun here! (DS3 is in Y2 so it's SATs time and DS2 is in Y5 and is starting to do some work at home occasionally for 11+ exam in Sept) Throw in the usual mix of children's activities, DS3's bday in 2 day's time, a festival in 8 weeks which I'm helping to organise and a NNS the following week for which I'm the Treasurer of the charity and it's all crazy. Oh - and I need to get our co year end accounts and 2 x personal taxation paperwork to the accountant. Oooh - and I forgot - we're renovating our BTL too - just in case we didn't have enough on right now!!!:rotfl:ANd I've had tonsillitis, just to cap it all off!
That's my list of excuses as to why I've been awol:p - have been keeping up with the thread every few days, which is about the best I can do atm.

Today paid off 98 off cc1 and 63.00 regular payment off cc2 so my debt made it under 2.5K.:) Need to find another 70 pounds to clear cc1by next week. :eek:100 pounds to get to 50% on this years starting debt. Paid off 2290 so far this year.:p Felt like bigging myself up :rotfl:
Not sure where I can find 70 pounds from by next week, may raid xmas fund and EF as not paying interest. Can pay back later in month.
Other news
Happy after a rubbish day yesterday with office bully got home and old dog walker friend has done the edges on my lawn -looks like a bowling green now but in a circle so cool.
Good deed - showed a friend where to take her gd to a fun part of park, where me and gs make dens, spot baby bunnies, she loved it.

Quick check in as DS3 is starting a podcast at 7 pm and I am going back upstairs (now have two working press and push led lights so I can read).
Spent today as I needed a taxi. Napped this afternoon but yesterday I came awake after midnight so might have a push on clearing stuff later - DS3 has put all the swords away.
Happy some Welsh poppies have self-seeded in the landscaping across the way. Brought most of my washing in when I got home at 1 pm, it's chucked it down while I slept.
Kind deed - going upstairs for DS3's podcast. Still doing local history.
Frugal - buying to last? I was over 50 the first time I went to a shop and got to choose my own couches (previously had a series of other people's cast offs starting with one that belonged to my grandmother that still had marks on made by my mother with her mobo horse). Chose a good basic design that will not date as I expect it to see me out - DS1 was lent one for a while and tried to cadge the other.

Good evening everyone.
I'm thrilled to report that I've managed another nsd - this is a real achievement for me lately as little sneaky spends have been sneaking in. I feel loads better today - the first chemistry paper was this morning, and I'm really hopeful that it went well. I thought it was a good paper, and so did most of my students. It's like a bit of a weight off my shoulders, and almost a month until the next 2 papers so I'm not going to stress for now.
That's my happy thing for today definitely.
My frugal thing is to always check TCB or look for a voucher before you buy anything online. I saved 20% on my latest wool pack just by casually googling for a voucher code.
And act of kindness was to cover a duty for a colleague.
Speky - lots of brownie points for you. I'm lucky if I can get a bar of chocolate out of my dh... Bob's ds manages better than my dh on that front :rotfl: (that sounds so sweet Bob)
Fmess - I did hear about the biology exams, but we don't do AQA at our place. We're Edexcel. That paper seemed ok as far as I know.
Thrifty - you are SO right about leaving the family behind when you go shopping. My £30 top up turned into £56 when I had the kids with me.
greent - sounds like you're rushed off your feet at the moment! Take it easy...
Calling - hope today has been better for you.
mothernerd - hope you're feeling ok.Not giving up

apple how are you this evening?
SFD for me todaywhich is my happy thing and also getting compliments from some students who were grateful that I had gone above and beyond for them.
Frugal tip - freeze all your cooked and unused veg. I've just had a lovely cottage pie and frozen mashed suede which was lovely.

Morning! Thank you for asking after me. I am slowly mending and the swelling / hurty bits are more confined to ankles and wrists/thumbs now. I kind of need to go back to work next week, to do the classes' speaking and listening tests - but am also perfectly content to stay off if I need to, and then sort it all out somehow.
And one week from now, I should be packing the car and getting ready to go camping! Eek!
Have a good Friday everyone.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Cat thanks it is so funny how early romance starts
So pleased your exams are going well.
Appleglad you are feeling a bit better. You are doing so well on your mortgage reduction your figure is teeny now!
mothernerd i agree on buying quality. We went to DFS for our sofas, we have 2. 1 in our home and one in the flat we let out. Both are leather now around 7 to 10 years old each. Very good quality. Dont intend to replace. We also bought a very good table and benches in oak, & our wardrobes and chests of draws are all the same but in dark wood. I dont intend to ever replace these items so spending when we first set up was an investment." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D
