I'm lucky enough to have had my uni education for free with a half free/half interest charging loan from the government. (Hello fellow biologist Fmess). As my kids are half German and hopefully someday manage the language they might be able to study over there if they wish.

Had DS first school visit today and he liked it. The school is currently totally undersubscribed as they tore a lot of multis down in the catchment. They only have 130 pupils out of 400 capacity and the whole of P1 will have 15-19 pupils. Where do you get that nowadays. So this and a few other fact will hopefully convince DH that this school is not as bad an option as he thinks.

Not much else to report. Prob need bread tonight and do a big shop on Sun. Have a nice weekend.

Re: broccoli stems, I like it raw, also cauliflower, and use the stems like carrot sticks with houmous etc.

Frugal tip: keep the hair you shed, some eggshells and coffee grounds and make a plant fertiliser for your tomatoes that contains important slow realise protein, calcium, phosphorous etc.

Good evening Turtles :D We have made it to another weekend (commiserations to all those who have to work over the weekend). I have one more job to do and then I'm done for the evening. DD finishes her gymnastics class in half an hour, and then we're done. My plan is to spend a bit of quality time with dh. But by Friday night the reality is more likely that I'll be snoring on the sofa by 9pm :p:rotfl:
Fmess - I'm afraid I don't understand biology well at all... Thankfully in our department of 7 we have 5 biologists so I don't have to teach it often at all. I much prefer the simplicity of chemistry, which is my specialism and makes complete sense to me. I can understand biology if I can get it into a chemistry context (like enzymes :p)
Mothernerd - please look after yourself. It sounds to me as though you're burning out. You're always so busy and running about after other people. It's ok to have a bit of time off you know. Take care.
I was lucky enough to get my degree in the days before we had to pay for them, but I couldn't do my job now without it. I will certainly only encourage my two to uni if it's needed for where they want to head in life. Apprenticeships seem like a pretty good option these days...
    Anyway,
Things that have made me happy today - being given a bottle of wine by a member of staff I had a bit of a fall out with yesterday. Having a giggle with my Year 10 and getting 3 sets of books marked.
Kind act - agreeing to cover a lesson (art!) for a colleague so she can have the day off to move house.
Frugalities - raking through the freezer and making an inventory of what's in.
Compliment - made to Year 11 head girl.

Mothernerd have a good rest. Horrid when you are so exhausted.

Don't worry we will keep the thread going with waffle :D

    Today a good day.

Dentist brilliant and praised them. Just put some gunge on it, mentioned I was thinking of waiting for my check up appointment next month, any way she offered to do it then to save me money- total cost £13.50 which I can reclaim from medicash. 6 months till next appointment ;)

Got accepted for m and s credit card on here- looking fwd to £30 voucher.

Bought myself a top and a lovely long cardy as a little treat - halfprice. Got petrol today and had lunch out. (tad naughty but I have paid a lot of my debt lately .)

Happy - good laugh with my dog walking mates.

Kindness - asked annoying 'friend' over for brew this afternoon - method in my madness that way she doesn't just turn up at night.

Frugal - reuse old cardigans as cushion covers

Dizzy Imp lovely news. What month? My new grandchild is due December.

September - this will be my 32nd niece or nephew! My late, first husband was the youngest of 10 children, so there were lots of babies...some of them are very close to me in age, with their own offspring

My good deed was cooking a big dinner as I'd invited DH's mate to stay after he brought round a digger he's lending us for some earthworks. Home-made chicken and leek pie and banoffee pie for pud. Definitely not great for my weight loss...

My frugal tip is to make full use of YS items. I wasn't planning on chicken pie for tea, but the meat was such a bargain, I couldn't resist. I've fed three adults and two children for about £5 all in, including desert, which I'm very pleased about.

I am very happy just to have has a phone call from my DSS to say he's twenty minutes away by train and a good hour earlier than we were expecting him! Hubby just dashed off to the station to be there when he arrives!

Hugs to mothernerd - take some time for yourself sweet pea :)

    Evening all,

Quick check in with a spendy day.

Happiness - seeing my year 11s enjoy a special day.

Kindness - helping a colleague who was really stressed by sitting and working with her for an hour.

Frugality - if I fancy a food treat when I'm out, I think of all the food I have at home and pick out something to eat when I get home instead. I love buttered toast so that usually convinces me to bypass the shops.

Compliment - complimented a lovely student today on their dress sense.

thrifty yay a fellow biologist :)

ccl you are the opposite of me, I can't grasp chemistry but I'm obsessed with biology lol

    Where is everyone?!?!

Spendy day today as offered to cook dinner for my family for a change. It'll save me a journey to see them tomorrow so although I've spent on food, there will be enough for lunches this week and I won't need the petrol to go to their city tomorrow.

Had a lovely dog walk with a friend and our dogs today which was nice and I'm just having half an hour on the sofa before hoovering the house.

Busy day just back in. I wombled a plate of sandwiches some cooked sausages, a cake board and some candles from a kids birthday party. All of it was just going to be thrown out. Which leads to my frugal tip of 'don't ask don't get'

Fmess buttered toast. Yum! For me toast has to be cold or as near to cold as I can get it, with a visible layer of lurpack butter on it and then a little marmite. My OH prefers it exactly the opposite to me. Hot with very little butter and lots of marmite :)

bob that's exactly how I eat mine! Minus the marmite, I've never tried it. I love cold toast. When I was a child is eat the leftover breakfast toast as my after school snack. I love lurpak but now have aldee norpak which is very similar - frugal tip for the day - many aldee and lidl foods are almost exact replicas of branded products, they're definitely worth a taste test.
