It could work, but we would need to set something up independently of MSE: It's in the rules that we're not meant to swap/sell/or share through here in case Martin gets into trouble if something went wrong.

Thanks for mentioning this Liz. :)

Maybe a group on yahoo? It could also serve as a place for people (like me :) ) who have recently started up sewing and often need some advice?

Officially as well, under copyright laws you are only supposed to make a pattern up once. i.e. - even if you make 3 tops from the same pattern for your own use, you're technically breaching copyright.

It would be a great idea otherwise, and something I would like to do if it was workable.

I didn't know that about copyright. How bizzare! I assumed that you had bought the right to use the pattern - all be it not for sale or profit.

Speaking of cheap sewing patterns, I can really recommend http://www.sewingpatterns.com/. Their prices are just silly. They ship to the UK, have all the main brands in stock (including some out of print ones) and if you're ordering a few at a time it works out even cheaper.

http://www.thesewingforum.co.uk/ is a great resource for sewers, somebody here recommended it. Forget who, though! :o

The weird thing with copyright is that you can make a pattern up for profit (a dressmaker, for example) so long as you don't pass it off as your own design and you use a new pattern for each person. Go figure!

Thats just so unfair :( I haven't got material organized or the any time at the moment.

I like the idea of the carries bag style. The handles should be stronger being part of the main body fabric.
Let me know how you get on and pictures please.:T

That looks great. I have a piece of Laura Ashley canvas I bought from ebay for a pound. I've been wondering what to do with it so might have a go at that bag later.

    Thanks for that!

brilliant pattern, ill certainly have a go at one.

I brought a bag canvas bag about 3 years ago for 50p at a car boot sale i had intended it for use as a holiday bag, but i use it all the time for shopping and rarely accept plastic bags.

i read of this link in the you mag with mail on sunday a couple of weeks ago and ive just printed one off. there are some really sad issues about wildlife with using plastic bags so each one refused is a problem less

in case anyone wants a different pattern.

brilliant idea for secondary school teachers to get the kids making these in textiles, or even making to sell at school fetes etc. green and fund raising
