Just thought I would mention that it is possible to purchase sewing patterns much cheaper online.

I recently wanted to buy 4 patterns and by purchasing from the offical U.S. web site I save over 50% of the price it would have cost me to buy the same patterns in England.

The site I used is http://www.voguepatterns.com where they have patterns for vogue, mcalls and butterick. The site is nice and easy to use and you can clearly see the patterns and how it will look when made up. The patterns were posted to me without any problems at all. It can take a few weeks for the patterns to be delived from the U.S. though. They say 4 weeks, but I received mine in 2.

I am in no way associated with the companies mentioned, just impressed that I can save a lot of money on sewing patterns. It really brings down the cost of sewing your own clothes.

Just a tip. The sizes shown on the patterns are in U.K. and not America sizes. Took me a while to work out what sizes to buy as I was not sure.
  • Hi Cath! Yes, that's very true, I buy nearly all my patterns online (except Burda ones which are cheaper over here). Just at present, for a month, Vogue patterns are half price over here in shops and online from https://www.sewdirect.com here in the UK. Just a cautionary note though, for some weird reason sewdirect doesn't seem to have the full catalogue online, although if you know the number you want you can just order it anyway, which I find irritating!

John Lewis have stopped stocking Butterick and McCalls patterns now so I have to get them online if I want any.

I just wish I could sew! Cooking and cleaning , no problem, but sewing. I can just about sew on a button :o
  • I buy my patterns from https://www.sewingpatterns.com
My latest order was for four patterns (they were the cheapy ones but all brilliant despite this) and including postage came to just over £6. Loads of US patterns available for one or two dollars. Delivery only takes about a week too.
  • Yes, I have used sewingpatterns as well but my favourite US site is https://www.thesewingplace.com which carries lots of independent American patterns as well as Burda and Neue Mode (although I buy my Burda patterns from John Lewis because it's cheaper and saves postage). Their service is second to none, and they have fabulous buttons and great interfacings etc which are not available over here (at least I don't know where to get them).

I love sewing! and would love to teach you, arkonitebabe but I bet you don't live anywhere close enough :(
