Hi, Dont know if Ive posted in the right place but Im looking for a nice modern bag pattern. Ive just bought some really lovely material, a cotton linen mix. I thought you lot might be able to help. Im pretty new to sewing so have not found the best place to get patterns yet, theres so many to choose from and prices differ greatly, Im getting a bit lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Lindsey
  • I made one of these for my daughter it was really easy and you save on buying a pattern as you can cut one yourself from newspaper. I adapted mine a bit because she wanted the straps to tie at the top like a hobo bag.

Resident Evil, Thanks for your reply, the bag is really cute and the photos will help a newb like me. Just what I wanted and free too.
  • You're welcome. When I was looking for a pattern in the shops in this style it was going to cost me more than the material.

I will let you know. Ive just inherited my mums sewing machine, its a 1970 singer in great working order. I was so pleased thinking i could make allsorts on the cheap but material and patterns are so expensive, the satisfaction is worth it though.
  • Google Salme Patterns!
  • I would just like to add that sewing patterns apparently expire and the stores are asked to rip them in half and throw them away. I worked for a Hancock Fabrics and so I threw the patterns away but after work I got them back and now have them listed on Ebay.

My point is that if you are nice with the employees they might be able to hook you up. Especially Hancock Fabrics, right now the company is in terrible disarray due to corporate bankruptcy and reformations so they don't treat their employees as humans, or even as human capital.

    sincerely,

my daughter was just talking about this very same subject last night. She found free patterns to download on the Hobbycraft site. There is one for a tote bag there too, I have just checked and found it myself, will probably make one for the beach this year. Give it a try.
