Thank you, I'd forgotten all about First Defence. Unfortunately gargling's a definite no go - I'm emetophobic and gargling makes me sick - but paracetamol, hot drinks, ice cream and general laziness sound good. I know a trip to the gym would be the healthiest way to sweat it out but I might go for a ridiculously hot bath instead :D

((((Faerie)))) So sorry to hear of the position you are in right now, it must be so scary. :(

I can only second what Pyxis said, start looking around now to see what is out there, you might be surprised at what is available, and at least you'll have done done some ground work. Even if you don't see anything on first look, keep on looking as you never know what might pop up.

Remember if you need to talk to anyone, there's nearly always someone on here, so don't forget that. :)

Izzy, the only thing I can think of to get rid of sore throats unfortunately involves gargling....salt water! Sounds gross but it works! Apart from that, can only think of nasal spray to help with the blocked nose and the usual throat sweets. Oh, and keep hydrated and try and keep the atmosphere hydrated by putting a bowl of water down. I have these things that I hang on my raidiators but always forget to fill them!

Following on from the success of websites such as “Reasons my kid is crying” and “My cat looks sad because”...... here is the latest one "Tea is screaming into a pillow because”

Today, Tea is screaming into a pillow because:

    · She had an incredibly detailed dream about being lost in various train stations and now feels tired and very out of sorts
    · Growing out fringe – grr!
    · Her tights are too tight
    · Hormones.....always the hormones

Vicks Ultra-Chloroseptic does really well on a sore throat, although don't expect to taste anything for a while. There is a cherry version of it now which makes it a lot less nasty. When I'm poorly I use the ultra-chloroseptic on my throat, and then have a lemsip because having a numbed throat makes that stuff less yucky! :D

For the blocked nose, you might benefit from getting hold of some of those nasal strips that open your nasal passages a bit (Breathe Right I think they're called) and then putting a little dab of vapour rub under your nose (careful not to put it inside your nose!).

And faerie, I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. Wish I could offer some useful advice but I can't. :( Pyxis is right in saying that you should take a look and see what's around. You might hopefully be surprised.
She would always like to say,
Why change the past when you can own this day?

Wizadora (I'm calling you this from now on haha), not sure if you'll be able to do this, using a neti pot or other nasal irrigation product is really good for stuffy noses and deals with the post nasal drip that causes the sore throat. You pretty much squirt saline up your nose until it comes out other nostril (sounds nasty but it's ok - bit weird but not painful). Might not be for you though.

Bit iffy. Interview this afternoon but I'm feeling very grouchy and uncommunicative, so guessing it's not going to be successful.

    Faerie:
    1. Phone Shelter to find out exactly where you stand and your rights around rolling tenancies.
    2. Register with the council and housing associations (if you haven't already done so) - you may not be priority now but if you're on the system and things change you have a head start.
    3. Check what your local council offer in the way of rent deposit schemes - some will do this so not having a guarantor may not matter. And you are a vulnerable adult - there is a statutory duty towards you. The BPD centre etc may be able to help with providing evidence of your vulnerabilities if you need it.
    4. Get a list of local lettings agents and their fees. Sometimes even if a landlord says no HB, if you can show you are a reasonably safe bet for them then they will change their mind, but it needs the LL to be asked the question.
    5. Don't panic. I get that you're worried stiff, but it's not up to the agency to say if they tolerate HB or not, that's up to each invidual landlord. The information you are getting is all third hand via the agent, surveyor etc - it may or may not be accurate. One step at a time, if you can.
And the housing part of this forum is very helpful if you have specific queries you want answering.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Thank you for the reminder about the inability to taste anything, fortunately I read it before I was about to spray and decided that it can wait until after I've eaten lunch.

That's fine, I answer to most names :D

I've never tried a neti pot but it's worth a go. If I really don't like it I don't have to do it again.

Good luck with the interview. You never know, they might be after someone grouchy and uncommunicative so it could work in your favour :D

Faerie, I know nothing current about renting, it being over 20 years since I was in rented accomodation so am unable to offer any advice, but hugs and sympathy as I do understand how unsettling it is having uncertainty in your life about important things like housing.

At the risk of appearing like I don't know anything about the subject of ladies' undergarments (which would be accurate, as I don't ), can you not just take them off?

Ono, don't be so silly :rotfl:.

Am wearing black opaque tights under a skirt that would be too short without them - plus my legs would be freezing! :rotfl:

    Am now going to add
    - excel has made her head hurt

to reasons why tea is screaming into a pillow.

I keep thinking I know what I want the flipping spreadsheet to do but then I get confused again.

Izzy - this is a remedy my BF tried on me many many yrs ago - I think it scared the sore throat off! 1 cm cube of root ginger, touch lightly with salt, chew v gently and slowly.

Apart from that - death to all pensions schemes. (Trying to deal with autoenrolment for my employees! Sodding govt putting too much pressure on small employers!)
