She'll be 77. She doesn't drink, is pre-diabetic so shouldn't have sweets, doesn't watch dvds or listen to music, hates the idea of vouchers as a gift, has plenty of jewellery and perfume and at least 2 of my siblings and 3 of my other family members will bring her flowers.
Budget is £50 or thereabouts.
Go!

Eta: theatre tickets and afternoon tea is also out as my dad isn't up to it and gets separation anxiety if she's away from him for too long. And she's not the spa type.

Hello everyone!
So sorry to hear how the heat is affecting you, WaS. All my dislike of the heat is based on how uncomfortable it makes me and the psychology of feeling dirty. Must be horrible for it to make you actually ill.
I accidentally left the front window open overnight but that's had the bonus of making the living room cool today, unlike my bedroom which was stuffy as hell all night and caused me to have weird aural hallucinations. I get them sometimes when I'm really tired... where as you're drifting off and teetering on the edge of wake and sleep you hear something. I think there's a name for it but it's basically where your brain switches to dream-mode before you're actually asleep.... heard a motorbike roaring just as I dozed off and then immediately awake again. Ugh. Also got woke up a couple of times hearing my name called after I'd managed to get to sleep. Still, all my heat-related issues are just varying degrees of annoyance... nothing too serious.
My final assignment for my OU course is due Tuesday, so plan on getting the draft version finished so I can work on the revisions/edits Sunday and Monday. Silly of me but had a chance to come out to my mum last night... she was watching old episodes of QI and Stephen Fry made some sort of comment which caused mum to ask me whether he was gay. Little surprised she didn't know that but told her that yes, he is, and she just said "oh, right"... decided to probe a little and asked her whether that bothered her and she just said "No why would it? I was just interested."
So then all I had to do was just ask how she'd feel if it was someone she knew... and then I thought, nope, I'm this close to a distinction on my OU module that I could really do with not having a falling out with my mum, so I completely chickened out. :wall:
Code, I can sympathise with it being difficult to buy presents for someone. My mum's really difficult at times, that I end up just getting a bottle of sherry or port or something like that for her and then feel a bit rubbish for being predictible. She would always like to say,

Pickle is so lovely Melly, and huge congratulations on the job! Have a big happy hug!
Thank you for all the hot weather tips, it is currently 2 degrees cooler which actually makes a big difference.
I am so relieved, I can stop panicking! To say a weight has been lifted is an understatement. The decision maker was lovely and said well done for chasing this up or the wait would have been a lot longer because we had no idea the medical centre had sent the form and it was lost until you told us. He also said he was glad to hear he made someone happy today because he doesn't often hear that. I am amazed that he managed to get the medical assessment, make a decision and call me in 3 hours flat. Code, if you're not able to take her out anywhere, (what's the longest she could be out for? And what sort of trip could your Dad manage?), then what about a boxed set of a period drama from the past, that she might have enjoyed on the TV?

Oh there are loads! Can't think of them all! Will repost if I get any other ideas.
Or what about a trip to the hairdresser's?
Or to a salon for a facial? You could have one too. At the same time!(I just lurve spiders!)

Great news, WaS!
I never doubted the outcome, but it is a very worrying situation to be in.(I just lurve spiders!)

Aw, Lambyr thank you! Lucee loved the elf too!
Thank you, Pyxis! I was put into the support group for the same reason as last time which is that if I worked I would put myself and others in danger. I can't disagree, I would never intentionally hurt anyone but there are so many ways I could unintentionally cause a disaster for me and everyone around me!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France
