Thanks but have lost faith in Hotpoint so opted for a Hoover which was a bit more expensive hence the additional payment.
Appreciate everything is a risk but this is clearly a recognised design fault which to my mind puts the item in the not fit for purpose category.
There's not a great deal you can do about it I'm afraid. Perhaps you could make a formal complaint with Argos regarding them changing their mind after previously agreeing to something - but that's not to say they'll change their minds again, at best you might just get an apology.
Legally, you simply aren't entitled to another brand. Argos can repair, refund (minus fair usage so far) or replace. There's nothing in law that says it has to be a different model - in fact it's entirely up to Argos so they could force you into a repair should they wish.
Completely understand what you're saying about "loosing faith in Hotpoint" but you might want to re-consider your options as ultimately if Argos continue to refuse you'll either be left with repair/replacement through Hotpoint or nothing.0 -
You could complain at Argos on their Facebook page. They often go for a quick resolution when your complaint is nice and public!
Withdrawing an offer is pretty poor form and I doubt they would want a lot of people to know about it.0 -
Appalling customer service from Argos. Well done Argos snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.0

My free replacement is due tomorrow, I think its great customer service to offer to replace my 7 year old one. They've answered the phone within 10 minutes and called back when they say they would... perfect0

I logged onto the web page that provides your repair date and used the chat option to discuss this with someone online. Managed to get a repair sorted for mid May 2016!!0

i called hotpoint customer services but after 12 mins on hold i got fed up with waiting.
i got sent the email stating mine will be fixed in march 2017, or i can have option of a replacement dryer for £59 (vented) or £99 (condenser).....this is why i am confused.
the text in the email states:
"This charge is a small contribution to help towards the cost of delivery, installation, and removal of your old appliance. Available models are subject to change without notice."
why would the charge be different between models, other than to recoup more money from customers who spent more in the first place? if i bought a vented dryer (7kg) for £150 and then was offered a replacement and upgrade to an 8kg condenser for just £99 i would be happy as larry.
i bought an 8kg condenser model at significant cost and would be far happier if i was offered the replacement at the reduced price.
if the price is a small contribution towards delivery install and removal, it shouldn't matter what you are buying, and why are we given the option to upgrade??0 -
Hotpoint showed up to deliver my replacement today, but it was a vented machine! :rotfl:
Paperwork showed it should be direct replacement (condensing), so the poor delivery guy had to go and get our old machine back off the truck and put the new one back on! Now got another delivery date for next week.
There may be only one letter different in the model number, but it makes a big difference if you have nowhere to vent!0 -
same almost happened me but rang back when i realised the model they said there were sending was vented. They cancelled the delivery but not the collection so they still came.
Didnt hear anything and rang back, you may need to call as the order was stuck in limbo as they can only have 1 delivery per address I was told.
My 8kg indesit came yesterday :T0 -
Without AJXX and Zandoni posting their twaddle (and claiming it's some sort of debate) on this thread for more than two + days it's still on the first page of Consumer Rights. Have you both got the message? This thread has no need of your pettiness!0
