    Hi all,

I've hit a brick wall and wondered if there was anything else I could try?

My dryer was purchased in January 2014 and since it was confirmed quite a while ago now that my dryer had this fault it has not been used. My partner does not want to use it and I'm not all that keen either!

The repair date given was October so I'll have been unable to use the thing for a year by then! Hotpoint won't budge from their original stance. The retailer isn't doing anything and AMEX said that as it was over a year old there was nothing they could do either.

Any other tips over and above the advice in the original post?

Have you tried Facebook or the feedback form on their site?

I have not seen one instance of them not buckling when put under pressure, but maybe they are starting to toughen up.

Give the feedback form a go, they are actually very polite and helpful. The organisation leaves a lot to be desired though.

Engineer arrived this afternoon - stripped down our 10 (?) year old drier and then realised that we had a different shaped drum to the one he thought!
He has re-booked for 2 weeks time when the correct shaped bit will be available.
He did mention that other faulty parts may be replaced during the visit if they were deemed to be unsafe ..... ;)

So, now, here we are two weeks down the line ....
Same guy turned up as before, stripped it all down, fitted new drum and a new motor, then reassembled it ..........
Sadly the drum kept 'popping out' despite his best efforts to sort it!
He now wonders if the casing is somehow incompatible, so has gone away to try and find another casing.
If that fails, then we will be offered a new one.

We will have to wait and see.

He phoned back - can't fix it.

He told us to phone Hotpoint to arrange a replacement. I've filled in the on-line contact form, will see if it gets a response.

My dryer was 6 years old and we were sent an email saying it would be fixed by end of March. 31st March came and no sign of it being fixed. Having read on here what people were doing I filled in the online form and a phone number popped up, as well as a note saying that they were busy and it could take a while.

Rang the number and they were useless, told me it would be fixed sometime. Put the phone down and messaged on facebook. Straight away I had a phone call offering me a new dryer free of charge. He gave me the product number and waited while I looked online to check I was happy to have it. That was the Thursday, by the next Thursday I had my new dryer installed. Thanks to the advice on here. :T

I wasn't prepared to wait any longer, emailed HOTPOINT and mentioned the tumble dryer was "not fit for purpose" within two weeks I had a brand new grey tumble dryer to replace the old one at no charge.
  • My mum had been registered for whirlpool service since January. She was getting the runaround trying to pin down the repair even after confirming her age and disabilities which make supervising the dryer very difficult. We had read the MSE advice and passed on the freephone number to request a new dryer for £59 on 0800 151 0905 within minutes she had agreed the replacement delivery for next Tuesday. Her old machine was 20 months old so a fair deal and takes away the concerns we and she had regarding fie risks.:T
  • I just mentioned on their facebook page that I was not happy with the time I had to wait for an engineer and lo and behold I have ended up with a brand new all singing all dancing tumble dryer. Its a lot better than the one I had which incidentally was 8 years old. I am well happy.

If it is the sensor dry model, you may not be singing for long. I opted for a replacement of the same model I had (simple timer dial), as reviews for the sensor dry model are not inspiring at all! Most people give it 1 star, which explains why Hotpoint are so willing to give them away!! :rotfl:
