What on earth makes you link contentment with dullness?

Do you assume that being content means sitting about in some sort of mindless daze of indifference, lacking the motivation to do much of interest?

I can assure you contentment is nothing of the sort, it's being happy doing whatever it is you're doing.

For you maybe. I have a different association of contentment, to me I want to be content on my death bed not before.

Each to their own and all that.

Mine would definitely include beards and anyone born before 1980 or after 1991! And anyone who is cruel to animals. Psychopaths tend to start with animals and I don't know how you could hurt them.

I'd also be put off by not being able to drive or being very religious. I don't think I'd have much in common with someone with strong religious views as a complete non believer.

Smoking isn't a deal breaker, but I really dislike it and I'd hope they would stop!

Really you don't want to be content ever in your life? If you are only content on your deathbed you have failed miserably in life.

Contentment had nothing to do with achievement. It is about being happy inside and that's something I want to be during my life.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

Contentment is great but dull, I like to be challenged and love new experiences, when I met my wife she very much a package tour to europe type, I introduced her to winging it and getting lost, she now loves getting lost and has the same curiosity that I have, what is around that corner?, what does that weird thing on the menu taste like?

I see the world like a book with each country being a chapter, and if you only live and holiday in one place, to me you are only reading one page and missing out.

As to religion, it didn't put me off as a teenager, I used to attend the local church group and pretend to be a christian as there was lots of young ladies who claimed to be pious and wholesome, They certainly weren't :D. The rumours about a Pastor's daughter are very true.

You are getting your definitions mixed up! You can be content and carry on seeing the world.

If it works for you then great. However, it shouldn't be so perplexing that it would be a deal-breaker for many other people.

I agree - like beards or other stuff people have said - its just that you didn't understand how anyone could be in a relationship if they had pokar opposite views about religion.

That's what I don't understand. You can be content with the way your life is, even if that life is full of new experiences.

    You can indeed.

Riding my bike up into the arctic circle to see the northern lights simply added to my contentment. As did the ride through the Atlas mountains in Algeria and into the northern Sahara. :D
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
