Hou - pics look great how exciting.
We walked past our new home today trying to peek in by the gates the roof is one, so just a shell with a roof, no windows etc, they say June/July time.
Does anyone know anything about cleaning, someone once said a cleaner goes in and the house is cleaned before completion but I can't see that happening, I expect it to be dusty and need a wipe down and Hoover before we move things in.0 -

I moved into my new build 6 weeks ago (although not one of the big builders like TW, Barratts etc so can't vouch for them). They did a clean once the place was finished but tradesmen still going into do bits and bobs and then a final clean just before we completed. I won't lie, it wasn't a deep clean like I would do (but I like a VERY clean house) but it was totally acceptable and there was hardly any dust anywhere. Just little things like small, barely noticeable paint splatters on window frames, tiles etc but they easily come off.
We didn't have carpets laid before we moved in but I have watched the progress of other houses on the development as they come up to completion and carpets seem to be the last thing that is done before the final clean so I would expect that you wouldn't need to vacuum.0 -
Looking good Hou; great shower tiles!
Cupcake we were told our carpets would be cleaned before we move in (we've got magnolia against my better judgement). I'd rather they cleaned it after we've moved in though!
4 days til the big move!0 -
Should've known things couldn't go right for an entire weekend; the roof on our current house is leaking.
I'm sure this place is trying to finish me off.0 -
Haylescom is that a reason you are moving?
We are buying a new build as we want everything new, we don't want to do any DIY (apart from shelves and maybe some painting) and want a low mantance home. I know there can be snagging etc in a new home but can't be doing anymore diy in our current home we want to enjoy our weekends and go out with our kids not spend the weekend grouting tiles or doing the large garden0 -
It's not a main factor. More to do with going to a nicer area and having a fresh start as I bought this house with my ex.
The roof has been repaired a few times, it's a valley where all the water gets directed to and it can't cope. Not a big job but awful timing as we basically have 3 days to try and get it fixed.
Have put off my Ikea shop too as we're looking at a few £££ to get this done. Since we sold the house lots of things have gone wrong that we've had to pay out for, it's like the building equivalent of the car Christine.0 -
Still waiting to exchange, but all on course for it to happen in the next few weeks as conveyancers have the contract pack and have submitted search requests.
Started looking at flooring, dismissed getting it from the builder as it was seriously expensive so have had some independent quotes - it's an expensive game home owning! I'd guessed around £2.5k but it's a bit more than that by the looks of things once you take into account prepping the underfloor!
I just have to keep reminding myself that it's a long term thing and it'll be worth it in the end. I'm also very impatient and can't wait to move in!0 -
After months of waiting and the build progressing exactly to plan, our house is now complete but there's a delay on the water connection.
Without the water, the house can't be signed off and we can't even have any access.
Our services (Sky, BT, carpets etc.) are all booked and our removal but the builder (Charles Church) can't get a connection date-infuriating.0 -
