Good luck with whichever decision you take, reachforthestars!

My old house is trying to finish me off. The roof is leaking again. What's annoyed me isn't the cost (it's going to be expensive and we likely won't be able to furnish the new house now), but had it been repaired properly in November I wouldn't be trying to get this sorted 2 days before moving out. I'm so angry and upset, I'm crying my eyes out.

Oh no, that really bad luck!

Just think though, 2 days more stress and then you can relax in your new home with several glasses of wine

    Thanks Hou.
I've got someone coming out tomorrow (because I haven't already got loads to do), but if they can't fix it I'm just going to have to phone the solicitor, tell them the situation and prepare ourselves for a large bill from the buyers.

All the best today Haylescom and as Hou said think about that first glass of wine in your new house!

Thanks Rae! We've got scaffolding up as we speak, hopefully it'll be finished today. The guy showed me a video of the previous work from November and it's pretty shoddy. Remember, if something seems too cheap it probably is.
And still no word from the solicitor regarding completion statement! May end up on the phone to removals later to see if they can do Friday instead...

Have you had a draft completion statement? If so just send across that amount. That's all we got and the solicitor called us on day of completion to take £3.64 on credit/debit card to make up the final amount.

No we'd had nothing because the builders hadn't sent any figures to the solicitor.
Never mind, we've got it now! Just noticed the £500 clean and tidy retention fee for the part exchange! The front porch light doesn't work but never has, I'm hoping that won't be a problem!

Good luck with it Haylescom, I hope it all gets better soon and you can get the hell out of there.

Little update from me and the OH, she managed to get a quick look at our place today and took a photo.

Haylescom is the roof all finished now? The big day tomorrow?

We done a drive past today, the roof slates are now on, I'm guessing the guttering will be next.

I'm due at the site Monday to sign some papers and pay my deposit, the plot has been held for me but Monday was the earliest they could see me

    Evening all!
The roof was finished about 3pm yesterday. The front lawn got a bit churned but other than that all seems ok. I patched up a small crack in the airing cupboard from the leak, hopefully we won't have any comeback from it.

What a turnaround today! This has probably been the most straight forward day of the whole process. The removal firm have been fantastic and definitely worth splashing out a bit on. All funds were transferred and we completed at 11:30 this morning! I've fully unpacked the kitchen, now debating living room as it's not going how I thought it would. Although our neighbour got their keys they haven't moved in so we're on our own.

    A few snags so far:
Paint chips in hallway and kitchen
    Small plinth not nailed on
Garden latch doesn't go all the way down
    Plaster cracked above stairs
    Outside garden light permanently on

    Think they're pretty minor though.
Oh we have an EU approved bath or something, so hot water isn't actually that hot! I like my baths scolding! But there's something behind the bath panel we can use to adjust it apparently. Loving the village life already! No BT yet so my signal is patchy!

I know I've completed now but I'll be sticking around to see how you guys get on and will post some pictures once we're out of boxes!
