Nationwide use Countrywide I believe to carry out their mortgage valuation surveys. Have the other properties which have been sold completed? It maybe worth checking because obviously if they have not completed then any valuer is going to have the same problems as before.

They've not completed yet as the houses are supposed to be finished in late April and first move ins in early May - but their valuation must have come in in line with asking price (or in line with a margin that the builder would budge on) so I'm just wondering if ours was having a bad day!?

Hi all, sorry to hijack this thread! I'm loving reading all of your updates.

Myself and my partner are looking at purchasing a new build, however the show home of the size house we want to purchase is no longer available, it has been sold.

We have viewed the 3 bed show home but we want the 2 bed, so want to have a look at sizes etc. We have seen photos but don't want to commit such a big purchase on just photos.

Would it be extremely cheeky if we were to knock on a door to ask if we are able to have a quick look around?

    Thanks
    Emma

I wouldn't be happy if someone knocked on my door asking to have a look but I might be open to it if the Sales Consultant gave me a ring to ask if I wouldn't mind. Maybe try that?

Other alternative is to ask the sales consultant if they have the same house type on another development that is available to view (might not be a show home though).

This is what we did. I'd be extremely annoyed if a total stranger knocked on my door asking to walk around my home! I think quite a few swear words would feature in my response.

That's what I thought - to be honest I would be exactly the same!! :) I need to give the sales people a call anyway so I will speak to them. Thanks both

Valuation is an art and not a science unfortunately - the valuer may have been inexperienced or may have insufficient knowledge of the area, or the other valuers may have been wrong!

I paid my deposit this week, it's now full steam ahead with the mortgage etc, hopefully get to select our kitchen soon, although quite shocked to see we don't get a fridge freezer or dishwasher! Yet the same house by the same builders at a different location get both as standard, not sure if because mine is on a smaller development or not but a little put out as we will now have to budget for these too

Went in to see mine today about the valuation. They are looking into it and said they would pay for a second opinion from their preferred valuation provider. *giggles*

So will wait for that and then we'll start negotiation...

Wow, been a busy week for lots of you!
Tygermoth, I'm so sorry that after all of this the builders are doing the bare minimum to resolve the issue. I think you've been ever so patient.
Congrats on getting in baxt3r! Glad you're well settled. Are there many of you there?
So, we've applied to get gas and electric changed over from british gas as it's expensive. Trying to get broadband sorted but Openreach have held that up big time!
Although we're the only people in our courtyard there's another family in the house at the front next to the show house. They've only gone and had a sky dish put on the front! I'm not impressed, we've been such sticklers to the covenant and our house is at the very back of the development.
We've got a small snagging list but really nothing major. The main thing is we feel so relaxed here! I visited my boss yesterday and had to drive by my old house; it filled me with anxiety.
