I have 2 cats and would much prefer someone aimed a water pistol at them to scare them off rather than use chemicals or even worse, violence.
A water pistol is humane and could even be fun for your daughter - the cats won't like it one bit but it definitely won't harm them.
Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!0 -
chilli powder might keep them backonwards and upwards0

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. There is just one awful fearless cat who comes to get my birds as I hang a lot of feeders around in one area. My OH managed to drench him once but it did not deter him. This subject has been covered very very extensively on other forums so you might find some good advice if you just Google for it.
Some people swear by: Get Off my Garden - any garden shop
Citrus peel, electronic thingy's - no joy for us,
get a cat, get a dog, Lion's Roar - useless, and one lady said the best of all is a scarecrow kind of thing that sprays water when it detects movement.0 -
I am 3 months pregnant and so my hormones are all over the place as it is but i really am fed up of my neighbours cats, its 2 houses that have 4 cats that are out all of the time, they come over to poo on my garden before walking off and i have had enough of it  obviously been pregnant i can't touch the cat poo and i'm fed up of doing it anyway, why should i have to pick cat poo up when i don't even have a cat?? Anyway i need ideas to keep them off, they do it everyday and i am at the point now where i want to poison them or bag up the poo and dish it out to the owners. My 3 year old son can't play in his garden because of it either, i am so mad  I haven't got money to waste trying to find something to keep them away either and why should i??? Why have a cat if you never let it in your house???
Rant over so anyway if anyone has any ideas short of shooting them to keep them off my garden, please let me know. I am going to phone the housing too about it, it's getting beyond a joke now and i have had enough, next summer i will have a baby that i want to be able to sit on the grass to play, not going to be able to do this amoungst cat poo!!0 -
Keeping your grass short should help. Covering any loose soil also.
You can get this thing that squirts water at anything that moves, I would guess that would be the best solution.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Thanks Lotus-eater, my grass is really short, my front garden is my pride and joy which is why it gets to me the most
what would i cover loose soil with? i did have bark down but that just made it worse so i took that up.

Get a cat.
Get a dog.
Both would keep other cats away. But a dog would poo in the garden, cat wouldn't.0 -
Hi Boppy,
Get yourself a water gun and fire at the cats every time they come into your garden - you won't hurt them. Also put empty clear plastic bottles filled with water around the garden, have tried this and it works - don't know why. I have loads of cats around here, idiot neighbour puts food out for all of the cats - so cats come from all over. The cats no longer even enter my garden cause they know they will get a soaking and hate the bottles. Neighbour to my right also uses the bottles and her garden has no cat pooh. I like cats and used to be a cat owner but they can be real pests.0
