• Get a supersoaker and squirt the little darlings when you see them. And try giving next door neighbours a Nepeta plant whilst smiling sweetly. Just don't tell them it's cat nip and they will have every cat in the neighbourhood visiting their garden instead!

(As a cat worshipper, I have to say that the kitties themselves will be eternally grateful for your kind gift!)
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

• MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com
• After reading this thread the other day I've put some aluminium foil around the area that the cats are using and for the last two days there hasn't been any poo poo there so far! I've just attached a few strips to a trellis nearby so that they flutter in the breeze and twinkle in the sunlight.

i have about 5 different cats coming in to my back and front garden and they are really becoming a pain. they have also started to use my gardens as toilets (which i obviously aint to pleased with). the reason is because i have about 6 very tall trees along the edgeways that are filled with birds.

what can i use or do to stop them from coming in, i also have a little daughter who likes to play out so im a bit doubious to use chemicals

The only thing that works without being cruel is a good soaking with water. (Hose or sprinkler of some sort)

Any mention of chemicals being used on Bird murderers and the goody goody brigade will be out and posts deleted.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
• thank you i had thought of this, i think it will have to be a water pistol cuse my hose is to far away for me to get in time :-)

• you can buy electronic cat repellents with ultra sonic(only heard by cats/dogs) sound! i have a scattercat gun and it works well but you have to use that by hand! you can buy ones with motion sensor etc! :o

You can hear these, ive heard atleast three in my local area alone. So either they lie and you can hear them or i have the hearing of a cat/dog. Pick which you believe. I know you can adjust the volume of them but when you can still hear one through a double glazed window its excessive.

We've used sometihng called "Freshbin", i forget who makes it but if you put it down on concrete paths etc and around any entrances to your garden it helps deter cats. Needs to be re applied every few weeks. Oh, and before anyone says that the chemical is bad for cats yada yada i have owned and still do have a cat who is old and senile and he doesnt have any trouble with it.

Alternatively lemons seem to help on small areas like paths, but im not convinced it would work on an entire garden.

To be honest, spraying them with water is your best bet id say.

Edit, reread and noticed you mentioned a daughter, guess the chemicals wouldnt be great. Id say give her a water pistol and let her go to town on the cats.
