Made decision between All Season or Winter tyres

But the OP thinks it's value for money to buy and fit budget winter tyres in the middle of the mildest "winters" we've had for years as well as believing that they outperform standard tyres in this weather.
You do realise that case are used to go on journeys? These "journeys" sometimes go abroad or to Aberdeen or the South of France, before 07:00 temperatures where I live have been fairly cold recently and just because we are heading towards February hardly means the summer is on its way is it?
And is that what I said? That they outperform standard tyres in this weather? What weather have you had then?
Or are you trying to take comments out of context?
Have got nearly 300 miles on these tyres now and they are quiet, progressive and good value for money.
Braking in the wet is predictable.
To be honest for the money spent they are good tyre, they may not be as good as premium tyres costin 3 times as much but then this is MSE isn't it?
I assume your crystal ball is well polished? As I don't know what the weather will do, do you?
Good luck trying to order some suitable tyres if there is a cold snap, hopefully you won't run into the back of somebody that put in Winter or All Season tyres.
You say Nexens are a budget tyre?
Well the EU wet braking is a B, there are plenty of premium tyres that don't score that well, I can accept 71db noise and E for fuel economy as the difference between an A and an E is likely not overly significant in a petrol Berlingo that averages 32mpg according to my calculations.
According to AccuWeather temperatures are not exactly going to be high, especially if you consider the "Realfeel" temperature which more accurately reflects the temperatures you will actually experince.
And I think you will find I said that in my experince winter tyres deal with wet conditions better than summer tyres, as evidenced by the better performance through standing water.
I will of course update the thread when I have driven through some standing water.
After all hitting standing water is not an unusual event, and causes the tyre to lose contact with the road. You have driven in the rain before Neil?0 -

I am not in the North.
And the funny thing with a brand new set of tyres is they last several thousand miles.
Which means they will still be perfectly usable next year and possibly the year after that.
Or do you throw your tyre away before they are at the end of their life?0 -
I'm not going to go over old ground, and for the record I'm an advocate of winter tyres in the right conditions, but what you actually stated was this blanket statementAnd I think you will find I said that in my experince winter tyres deal with wet conditions better than summer tyres, as evidenced by the better performance through standing water.winter tyres are much better in the wet than summer tyres.

So are my "summer" tyres in normal temperatures.Braking in the wet is predictable.0 -

They will be worn out by next winter if you go all year on them. Depending on how many miles you do obviously.0 -
on a basic non high performance car winter tyres are fine to use all round. If you haven't done it how do you know?
I have and they have been fine on my Volvo V50 2.0d which covers 20000m per year on fairly fast flowing rural trunk roads.
Since about 2003
Now in the past I haven't seen eye to eye with big jill on many things but there should be no bullying on this forum.0 -

Why would I be going all year on them?
I would if they were on 4mm at the end of Winter though, as it is legal to use Winter tyres all year, they will wear heavier but as they are no go for another Winter why bother.0 -

Actually you said that yourself.

You do post drivel don't you.
Nexen are Korean tyres and are doing a Hankook or Kumho and slowly moving into the middle ground.
For sure the Nexen Winguard Snow G WH2 is a good value tyre.
£32 a corner plus fitting, I gave £30 all in as I wanted four new valves aswell.
So a brand new set of matched Winter tyres for under £160.
I honestly can't see the downside.
Nokian Weatherproof would have been an extra £16 a corner.
A no brainer really.
Might put Nexen Summer tyres on it for the rest of the year.
But like many who like to start arguments you haven't given an alternative have you?
And have deftly side stepped the point about the Nexen WH2 tyre scoring well in reviews and having a B for Wet Braking.
Is a B not good enough for £32 a corner?0 -

It was YOU that stated the tyres were budget, I merely agreed with you! After thinking about it and considering the value of the Berlingo I went for a budget tyre.
Nexen Winguard Snow G WH2
And as far as side stepping is concerned you keep conveniently side stepping you blanket statement that winter tyres are better than summer tyres in the wet full stop, despite evidence to the contrary on the other thread.
So what your Nexen tyre scores well as a winter tyre, I've never said otherwise. The argument isn't whether you've bought a good winter tyre or not, it's whether your tyre is suitable for the current conditions.
If you want to be the one spouting drivel than have at it, I'm not about to argue the toss.0 -
There's been no bullying here, difference of opinion yes, bullying no.on a basic non high performance car winter tyres are fine to use all round. If you haven't done it how do you know?

Have noticed that there have been a few Yellow Warnings from the Met Office for snow, with temperatures at or below 7oC for many areas, and that is during the day.
Could be just the right time to fit Winter tyres for some.0
